A case of giant ureteric polyp is reported. Histologically it was classified as a ureteric hamartoma showing a predominantly fibrovascular pattern. Conservative excision of the polyp gave a satisfactory result. The problems encountered in the diagnosis and management are discussed. A new classification of tumorous lesions of the ureter is suggested. This essentially separates the true tumours from the ureteric polyps.

The operation of turbinectomy is discussed essentially as part of the total corrective operation for external deformity and nasal obstruction consequent on old injury. Since the condition was first described over a century ago, many cases of teratoma of the neck have been documented. There are now approximately 110 cases reported in the literature. The purpose of this article is to add a further two cases and to assess the nature of these uncommon tumours.

The incidence of local recurrence, including suture‐line recurrence, has been analysed with reference to chemoprophylaxis in 277 patients having a curative large‐bowel resection and anastomosis for carcinoma between 1961 and 1968. Ninety‐five patients received penicillin, the local recurrence rate being 10.5% and the death rate from carcinoma 23.1%, 105 received neomycin, with a 7.6% local recurrence rate and a 25.8% death rate, and 77 received no antibiotic, with a 10.4% local recurrence rate and a 23.3% death rate.
