An account is given of a new method for the early diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis by radioisotope scanning. A much higher incidence of postoperative thrombosis is revealed than has been previously recognized. An analysis of the natural history of these thromboses is attempted.

Cystic degeneration of the poplitcal is a rare cause of intermittent claudication, most commonly affecting young adult males. The cyst is primarily adventitial, but medial necrosis, intimal damage and thrombosis may eventually occur. Evacuation of the cyst with partial excision of the wall constitutes adequate treatment of an early lesion, but in more advanced lesions, as in the case described, patch graft or replacement vein graft is required.

The report of n patient who developed a malignant granular cell myoblastoma of the thigh is presented. The possible histogenesis of these tumours is discussed, the literature is reviewed and treatment is outlined.

In many countries leprosy is regarded as a disease that the average medical practitioner is unlikely to see unless he travels. However, in this jet age, the long‐accepted geographical distribution of disease is being upet by tourists, workers and other travellers, who bring home illness and pose problems of diagnosis that are unexpected. The digital flexor tendons have a spiral arrangement of their fibres, which minimizes distortion and improves the efficiency of load transfer in dl degrees of flexion. This article describes these fibre patterns in relation to the blood supply, which is protected during tension, angulation or compression of the tendon.

This paper describes the use of the calf liver as an alternative to the pig liver for extracorporeal perfusion and hepatic support. Despite a more difficult dissection during hepatectomy, the calf liver functions biochemically similarly to the pig liver and appears to be an acceptable alternative. Perfusion through the umbilical vein in the calf is described as a means of reducing warm ischemia time. It is noted that addition of India ink to the perfusion circuit may show up areas of poor perfusion despite apparently satisfactory biochemical function.

Pentazocine, in dosage of 0°5 mg per kilogram of body weight, has been compared with morphine (0°2 nig/kg) for premedication in children undergoing adenotonsillectomy. The parameters measured were the presence or absence of apprehension, the incidence of postoperative vomiting, the postoperative analgesic requirements and the time that elapsed from prenzedication to the postoperative injection.
