World experience with transplantation of the heart, liver, lung, pancreas and kidney and the Australian and New Zealand experience with renal transplantation are reviewed. The results achieved by kidney transplantation during the past five years are detailed. Other areas of medical knowledge which have benefited by the advent of organ transplantation are indicated.

A post‐traumatic arterio‐venous fistula related to biphasic behavioural disturbance and resolving after surgical closure of the fistula is reported. It is suggested that two types of circulatory disturbance were related to two different types of mental behaviour. Initially a cerebral steal was associated with frontal lobe irritative phenomena. When this was compensated for by cross flow, normal mental behaviour returned. Four patients with coexisting gastric carcinoma and duodenal ulcer are reported. Each was seen by the same surgeon within a four‐month period. In two instances the duodenal ulcer was known to have been present for more than 12 years, while in two the history was short and one of weight loss, vague pain and hcematemesis. Each patient was in blood group A. A resection was performed in three and a bypass in one, and two of the four died of carcinoma within three months.
