摘要:
SUMMARYThe haploid chromosome number ofHypoxylon fuscumis 4, based on counts at stages before full pachytene (prepachytene), diakinesis, and metaphases I, II, III. Early synapsis of homologous chromosomes occurs. The nucleolus persists through metaphase, being lost in the cytoplasm following its separation from the organizer chromosome at anaphase. A centriole-astral ray mechanism of spore formation was not conclusively demonstrated. Maturing ascospores normally are uninucleate. Several kinds of aberrant asci and spores are described.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe structurally-organized association ofChlorella xanthellaand a species ofStreptomycesinto an actinolichen is independent of temperature over at least a range from 18 to 26 C and can occur in constant as well as variable temperatures. Actinolichen formation is light-dependent, requiring a minimum of 275 ft-c and light is optimal at about 900 ft-c. The active wave lengths of light are probably at or below the blue end of the spectrum. Actinolichens can be formed on nutrient solid surfaces or in liquid medium under shake conditions.

摘要:
SUMMARYAscobolus immersusclock mutants have a periodic growth pattern clue to branching and sub-branching at the leading edge. The linear growth rate is constant, only the branching pattern is rhythmic. The time period necessary for the formation of each band is temperature dependent, light independent and chemically controllable. Two of the mutants grow non-rhythmically on a chemically defined minimal medium with 1% sucrose. Substitution of other sugars or glycerol as carbon sources does not induce rings. Clear, consistent growth bands are formed with the addition of cysteine, serine, isoleucine, ornithine or particularly arginine. This dependence on amino acids for rhythmic growth is concentration dependent.
