摘要:
SUMMARYSome 20 species ofArthrobotrysCorda have been listed in the literature. In this study, 8 have been studied from fresh material and the remainder from literary discussions. I have concluded that 12 are valid species, 7 doubtful and 1 a synonym. Two keys, one from pure and one from nematode-infested cultures, have been presented for the separation and identification of the valid species.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe new, monotypic genusNeournula(type,Neournula nordmanensissp. nov.) is described in the family Sarcoscyphaceae, tribe Urnuleae.Neournulais distinguished from other genera of the Sarcoscyphaceae by its possession of non-gelatinous apothecia and verrucose ascospores. The ascospore ornamentation stains in heated cotton blue. The ascus bases are blunt or lobed and each ascus is attached to the hypothecium by a narrow hypha.Neournula nordmanensisis saprophytic on conifer debris. It is known only from Idaho, Washington State, and British Columbia. The species has been cultured on a medium prepared by autoclaving a portion of its substrate in distilled water and adding agar to the resulting extract. In culture small, flat, black stromata are produced. There is no known conidial state.

摘要:
SUMMARYDifferent patterns of nuclear behavior are found in the aecial stages of members of theCronartium coleosporioidescomplex. Nuclear behavior in the heteroecious members,Peridermium stalactiformeandPeridermium filamentosum, follows the classical pattern for macrocyclic rust fungi. Binucleate aeciospores produce binucleate germ tubes. The autoecious fungiPeridermium harknessiiandPeridermium cerebroidesare not separable from each other on a cytological basis. The spores, which are mostly binucleate, produce germ tubes that become uninucleate by septation. Meiosis was not proved. A non-Castilleja-infectingrace ofP. filamentosum(probably autoecious) exhibits unusual cytological variability with nuclear numbers ranging from 1 to 6 (usually 2 or 3) in spores and 1 to 16 (usually 1) in germ tube cells.

摘要:
SUMMARYAn historical review of the fungus species currently calledTomentella bourdotiiis presented. It is concluded thatT. bourdotiiand the nameT. granosaare nomenclaturally untenable, and the new name,T. neobourdotii, is proposed. A description of the species, elucidating the macroscopical and microscopical characters, supplemented with line drawings, is given; and the inter- and intra-regional variation of basidiospore shape, size, and ornamentation is emphasized. The species is also reported as an additional member of the North American tomentelloid fungus flora.

摘要:
SUMMARYNine species of agarics and agaric allies are described from the tundra and boreal forests of the Yukon and Alaska. All 9 species are previously unreported from the St. Elias Mts. and adjacent Alaska. Several species are previously unreported from Canada or from North America. Descriptions and ecological data are given for all species, accompanied by drawings of the salient morphological features and photographs of 4 species.

摘要:
SUMMARYThe cultivation ofCandida albicansin a chemically defined medium supplemented with sodium chloride resulted in a decrease in viable cell counts, dry cell weights, and a concomitant increase in the percentage of extractable cellular lipids. Gas chromatographic analysis indicated that the qualitative fatty acid pattern ofC. albicanswas essentially unaltered by growth in the presence of various levels of NaCl, whereas significant quantitative changes were noted. Growth in the presence of specific concentrations of NaC1 resulted in an increase in the relative distribution of the fatty acids 12: 0, 16: 0, 16: 1, 18: 3, and a decrease in 18: 1. The 18: 1 and 18: 2 components, however, predominated as the major fatty acids. Under all experimental conditions, the total amounts of extractable unsaturated fatty acids was greater than the saturated fatty acid components. However, the presence of NaCl in excess of 1% caused a decrease in the relative amount of total unsaturated fatty acids recovered. The present report suggests that changes in growth conditions tend not to alter the qualitative fatty acid spectrum ofC. albicansbut may significantly change the relative amounts of individual fatty acids present.
