The longevity of adult male tropical spotted cutworm,Amathes c‐nigrum(L.) was not significantly affected when irradiated with 20, 30, 40 or 50 krad in air, and 50, 60 or 75 krad in nitrogen. However, the longevity of treated females was significantly increased at 40–50 krad in air and 50–75 krad in nitrogen. Fecundity was significantly reduced when males or females were treated with 20 krad or above in air and 50 krad or above in nitrogen and then crossed with untreated adults. Oviposition by untreated females, mated with treated males at 50 krad in air or 75 krad in nitrogen, was reduced by about 53%, while in treated females crossed with untreated males it was about 96%, at either dose levels or irradiation atmosphere. Per cent egg hatch was significantly reduced at 20 krad or above in air and 50 krad or above in nitrogen when the treated males or females were paired with untreated adults. Complete sterility (no egg hatch) was induced in treated males at 50 krad in air and 75 krad in nitrogen, while treated females were rendered sterile at 40 and 60 krad in air or nitrogen respectively. The number of spermatophores was not significantly different at all dose levels, mating combinations or irradiation atmospheres. Females were found more sensitive than males at all levels of irradiation. For a comparable sterility, the dose in air had to be multiplied by a factor of 1.5 for irradiation in nitrogen.

Field tests were conducted in view of earlier conflicting identifications of the composition of the female sex pheromone of the false codling moth. Formulations comprising equal proportions of (Z)‐ and (E)‐8‐dodecenyl acetate gave consistently high enough catches of male moths to envisage monitoring the pest with these commercially available lures. A formulation of a structure identified earlier, (E)‐7‐dodecenyl acetate, did not perform well in the tests. A wing‐trap and a large delta‐type trap caught consistently more males and either may be utilized in further studies. Both these traps were more efficient than cylindrical traps or smaller delta traps. Colour was not important when orange, brown, yellow, white or clear delta traps were compared.

摘要:
A field trial was conducted to study the magnitude of quinalphos residues in and/or cauliflower(Brassica oleracea Var Botrytis.The cauliflower crop was sprayed once with quinalphos 25 e.c. at 0.25 and 0.5 kg a.i./ha 104 days after transplanting. The samples of cauliflower drawn at different time intervals were analysed colorimetrically. The initial deposits of quinalphos on cauliflower were found to be 5.79 and 9.52 ppm, an the half life values 1.61 and 2.12 days, respectively, at 0.25 and 0.5 kg a.i./ha. The waiting periods determined were 11 days at the higher and 7 days at the lower dose of quinalphos.

Variety Local Red Round was highly preferred by the tuber moth for oviposition compared to improved varieties recommended. There was no significant difference in preference between the varieties NPI 108, NPl 106, Cardinal and Kufri Jyoti tested.
