摘要:
The optimal way of imparting abilities to reason and make decisions under uncertainty in undergraduate medical education is discussed in view of existing cognitive development theories of adults. Perry's cognitive development scheme is presented with relation to published observations on the ways of thinking of undergraduate medical students.Implications of these observations for undergraduate medical education are discussed along two main questions: A. Do medical students develop cognitively along a common predictable scheme as suggested by Perry and the published observations? B. Is this development related to their ability to reason and solve clinical problems?Admission policies, design of developmental courses in clinical reasoning and teacher-student communication as they are affected by the answers to these questions are presented as possible ways of bridging between theory and practice.
