摘要:
ABSTRACT“Family Centered Childbirth” has traditionally come to mean that the mother giving birth and the father, or coach, will be fully present when the new being emerges. What about the child waiting at home? Both the value of maternal–child bonding and early skin‐to‐skin contact between parents and infant have become well known and widely accepted. It is time now to consider the possibilities for sibling bonding and for family bonding. Just as the parents' opportunity for a joyous and positive birth experience can most often be enhanced by prior exposure to appropriate specialized information and training, so can siblings benefit by access to thorough preparation. This article makes specific recommendations as to the kinds of communications found by the author to be most helpful in preparing future sisters and brothers who may be present at the births of their siblings. Suggestions for teaching aids are given, and a bibliography is

摘要:
ABSTRACTIn England and Wales, family planning and maternity care have grown up as separate components of well‐woman health care, with midwives playing only a minor role in family planning. There are interesting historical and social reasons for the separate development of these 2 services that still very much influence today's practice. Although midwives with some additional training could become efficient and economic primary family planning providers, the movement toward this end is slow. Since this article was written the decision was made to extend midwifery training in England and Wales from 12 to 18 months. Now is the ideal time to plan for the inclusion of family planning as part of basic midwifer

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis article describes eight years of experience in a teenage antepartum clinic at Kings County Hospital Center. A retrospective survey of data collected from January 1968 to December 1975 regarding the pregnancy performance of 884 teenage patients is compared with the remaining obstetrical population for 1973. Results of the study showed that young patients differed significantly from the general population in that uterine dysfunction, contracted pelvis, toxemia and anemia occurred more frequently among the teenagers. The incidence of prematurity and perinatal loss was lower.

摘要:
ABSTRACTHistory and custom have decreed a choice of child birth position assumed during labor and delivery. The most common position throughout the centuries has been some form of the upright position, until the mid‐seventeenth century when the obstetrician decided that the recumbent position was easier for forceps deliveries. In the nineteenth century, ether was used as an anesthetic by inhalation. The parturient turned on her side to aid the conduct of labor and delivery under anesthesia. From that time on, the birth positions which more easily lent themselves to the convenience of the accoucheur became the choice of childbirth position, and this practice spread throughout most of Western Europe and America. However, literature reveals that the evidence had been available for several decades as to the physiological advantages of labor and delivery in the upright position. And the studies of the process of labor and delivery suggested that certain principles of physics apply to childbirth. Furthermore, the influence of position on the profile of the childbirth process has been studied toxographically and radiographically. Based on the research findings and various studies, the normal parturient should be allowed and encouraged to follow her own instincts and assume that position which will assist her to attain maximum comfort and physiological advantage during her labor and deliver

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe title of this paper reflects the historical perspective this writer has attempted to give to the development of the modern, certified nurse‐midwife. The historical overview delves into antiquity and covers periods ranging from the Greek and Roman eras to the Renaissance to the 1925–55 period in the U.S. when certified nurse‐midwives were first trained and used in this country. The paper mentions European midwifery today and cites several clinical studies documenting the effectiveness of certified nurse‐midwives in providing high quality maternal and infant heal
