摘要:
AbstractIn the present study, modifications of the lubricating properties of vegetable oils, which had undergone accelerated ageing, were quantified, using the optical EHD method. Each oil sample was examined in an optical viscometer in order to measure film thickness vs. contact speed. From these results the pressure—viscosity coefficient was calculated, by adjusting theoretical values. The modifications were related to molecular changes, which were observed with various tools of chemical analysis, including gel permeation chromatography (GPC

摘要:
AbstractPolyoxymethylene (POM), one of the major engineering thermoplastics, has high strength and stiffness, excellent chemical resistance and superior antifriction and wear resistance. It suffers, however, from poor impact resistance due to its higher crystallinity. In this study we have investigated how to improve the toughness of POM by blending polyurethane (PU) with POM using dual‐roller compaction. The influences of PU, silicone oil, a surfactant, and fillers such as ultra‐high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), graphite and carbon black, on the mechanical properties of oil‐containing POM/PU blends and its self‐lubrication performance in dry sliding against AISI1045 steel are examined. The results show that blends of POM with 10 wt.% PU reached the maximum notched Izod‐impact strength. The best processing method for oil‐containing POM/PU blends, and the optimal compositions of modified POM/PU blends were also

摘要:
AbstractLubricants and/or additives may need characterisation, or detection of contaminants and their identification. Analysis of turbine engine lubricants using Gas Chromatography with an Atomic Emission Detector (GC‐AED) is shown to be a function of the versatility of its multi‐element detection ability, and to offer advantages over previously used chromatographic detectors. GC‐AED can reveal identity of elements, and this paper presents GC‐AED results for MIL‐L‐7808 turbine‐engine lubricants, and for some thermally stable hightemperature candidate organic compounds — polyphenyl ether, phenyl thioethers, and cyclo

摘要:
AbstractEnvironmental concerns have brought forward vegetable oils as alternatives to more expensive synthetic lubricant base stocks, in moderate operating conditions. The contents of various acids, such as oleic and linoleum, can be changed by selective breeding to produce more desirable lubricating properties and less oxidation vulnerability.Different tests are needed for such lubricants, and the Baader test has been modified to show the ageing stability of rapeseed oil raffinate, TMP trioleate, dioctyl adipate, and HOSO. Such oils can also be modified with additive packages.
