摘要:
Solutions are developed for dynamic elastic displacements and stresses in thin, circular, cylindrical shells subjected to general temperature distributions. These are specialized to axisymmetric problems with variations in the radial and longtiduinal directions. Specific loadings considered are sequential pulses and suddenly applied thermal distributions. Numerical results generally indicate that moderate variations in the temporal and spatial distribution of temperature strongly influence response amplitudes and the times at which maximum displacements and stresses occur.

摘要:
This paper addresses the computation of thermally induced stresses in layered, fiber-reinforced composite tubes subjected to a circumferential gradient. The paper focuses on using the principle of complementary virtual work, in conjunction with a Ritz approximation to the stress field, to study the influence on the predicted stresses of including temperature-dependent material properties. Results indicate that the computed values of stress are sensitive to the temperature dependence of the matrix-direction compliance and matrix-direction thermal expansion in the plane of the lamina. There is less sensitivity to the temperature dependence of the other material properties.

摘要:
The linear problems of transient temperature and thermal stresses in a thin, finite, rectangular plate subjected to heat losses due to nonuniform heat transfer coefficients on the upper and lower plate surfaces are solved by a direct power series approach through the application of the Lanczos-Chebyshev and the discrete least-squares methods. A numerical example demonstrates the accuracies that can be achieved by using only a small number of terms.

摘要:
Acceleration wave propagation in an inhomogeneous, heat-conducting elastic rod of slowly varying cross-sectional area is treated as a problem in one-dimensional wave propagation. The wave speed is found to be independent of the varying cross section. The equation governing the growth of the wave amplitude is found to be of the Bernoulli type. The varying cross section affects only the coefficient of the linear term. The term contributed by the varying cross section is exactly the same as that contributed by the varying area of a ray tube due to geometric spreading in the theory of three-dimensional acceleration wave propagation. In a sense to be made precise later, a cross-sectional area that is increasing as the wave propagates renders an acceleration wave less likely to build up into a shock after a finite distance of propagation, while a decreasing cross-sectional area renders an acceleration wave more likely to build up into a shock. The inclusion of thermal effects leads to a damping of the waves independently of the effect of varying cross section.

摘要:
This paper considers the optimal heating problem for transient thermal stress in a thick plate for determining the surrounding temperature under prescribed mechanical boundary conditions. In the present investigation, the Laplace transform is used, and exact solutions for the surrounding temperature and thermal stresses are obtained. The numerical results for the temperature and thermal stresses are illustrated.
