摘要:
A constitutive equation applicable to metals is employed which incorporates elasticity, plasticity, and viscoelasticity. Central to this treatment is that all nonlinearities are confined to a quantity known as the “reduced time” so that the final solution technique can utilize linear methods. A 304 stainless steel plate cooled symmetrically from both sides is solved for the transient and residual stresses under different initial temperatures and heat transfer rates.

摘要:
Sudden heating of the cracked edge of a semi-infinite plate produces transient thermal stresses and dynamic stress intensity factors at the tip of a crack. The maximum values of the stress intensity factors, KIand KIIoccur a short time after the initiation of the transient and depend on the inclination of the crack with respect to the heated edge. The critical inclination of edge cracks of uniform length that produced the maximum mode I thermal stress intensity factor was found experimentally through digital image analysis of transient photoelastic images of the dynamic stress field. Williams' equations were used to compute stress intensity factors from the stress field data.

摘要:
The thermal stress problem for a pair of coplanar central cracks contained in an orthotropic plate is investigated using the techniques of Fourier transforms and finite Hilbert transforms. The crack surfaces are subjected to symmetrical thermal loadings. Exact expressions for the temperature field, the crack shapes, and the thermal stresses in the crack plane are obtained for the case of constant temperature. The opening-mode stress intensity factors at the inner and outer crack tips are also obtained in closed forms in terms of the material properties and the distance between the cracks. The properties of the stress intensity factors are shown to be different from the shear-mode stress intensity factors because of the disturbance of a uniform heat flow by a pair of central cracks.

摘要:
An infinite elastoplastic medium (Tresca's criterion) is loaded with a spherically symmetrical time-dependent temperature distribution. The thermal expansion induced by changes in temperature can lead to the generation of plastic zones. It is shown that relatively simple formulas can be used to calculate the boundaries of the plastic zones for any temperature distribution. The cases of increasing and decreasing plastic zones are considered. These formulas are applied to the case of a constant point source of heat acting during a finite or infinite interval of time.

摘要:
This paper considers the problem of the thermomechanical oxidation response of thermal barrier coatings. Overall, this involves the formulation of the requisite field equations and their associated boundary conditions, including the effects of oxide scale developing either on external surfaces or at interlaminar regions. To establish the potential effects of growing scale layers, the solution to the thermomechanical oxidation response of a cylindrically configured thermal barrier coating is developed. This includes handling the overall thermomechanical oxidation history

摘要:
In this paper the longitudinal wave propagation in a circular infinite cylinder is studied. The infinite circular cylinder is assumed to be made of a generalized thermoelastic material. The dispersion relation is obtained for the case in which the temperature is kept constant on the surface of the cylinder. Because of the complexity of the dispersion relation, the numerical solutions are given. For various values of parameters appearing in the field equations, some dispersion, attenuation, and phase velocity diagrams are presented
