摘要:
A solution is given for the transient thermal stresses due to a Griffith crack in a thin plate. It is assumed that the transient thermal stress is set up by the application of the prescribed temperature at the crack surface and the heat exchange by the convection on the flat surfaces. By the use of the finite difference method for a time variable, an analytical solution for spatial variables can be obtained.

摘要:
The room temperature stresses induced in a composite structure after cool-down from a high temperature are studied within the framework of linear thermoelasticiry. The equations governing a one-dimensional plane strain strip model are formulated using Reissner's variational theorem and appropriate assumptions regarding the through-thickness variation of the stress and displacement fields. Solutions are obtained using the method of matched asymptotic expansions, assuming that the thicknesses of the adherends are much smaller than their length. Numerical results are presented that show the variation of the stress distribution with adherend thickness ratio and adhesive layer thickness. Apparently, the effect of the adhesive layer thickness is small.

摘要:
In this paper the convolutional variational Gurtin-type principles for a linear ther-moelasticity with finite wave speeds proposed by Green and Lindsay are presented. The principles concern a linear anisotropic solid in which the nature of thermoelas-tic disturbances is described by two relaxation times. Equivalence of alternative formulations associated with the variational principles is discussed in some details.

摘要:
In this paper a closed-form solution to a plane wave propagation problem for a half-space subject to a uniform time-dependent healing of its boundary in the framework of dynamic theory of thermal stresses is presented. The solution is given for two variants of smooth boundary heating. The numerical results are shown in the form of graphs of stress and temperature versus the distance from the loaded boundary.

摘要:
In this paper, the fracture problem of a thick cylinder subjected to transient thermal stresses is considered. The problem has practical significance in the conventional and nuclear power industries where the structural integrity of components may be damaged due to sudden temperature changes. Neglecting the inertia effects, the thermal fracture problem is uncoupled. First the thermal stresses in a thick cylinder due to a sudden change in temperature are computed separately as a function of time. Then, these stresses are used as external loads in analyzing the fracture of a thick cylinder. The assumed crack, may be an inner edge crack, outer edge crack or an embedded crack. Extensive results are obtained by varying the parameters of the problems. The main parameters affecting fracture are identified and the results are discussed in some detail.

摘要:
An analysis is presented of the thermal stresses encountered during cooling of a solid circular cylinder initially heated from uniform temperature by Newtonian convection, followed by sudden cooling prior to reaching thermal equilibrium during the heating phase of the cycle. The numerical results indicate that the magnitude of the stresses attained during the cooling phase increases with increasing duration of heating, but are less than the corresponding values encountered for convective cooling from a condition of initial uniform temperature. The relevance of these results to the prediction or interpretation of thermal fatigue behavior is noted.
