摘要:
For a thermal isotropic body, the first and second variations of an arbitrary thermal functional corresponding to variation of material parameters is derived by using both direct and adjoint approaches. Both the steady-state and transient cases are considered, and the analysis is equally applicable to analytical or numerical solution techniques. A simple example is used to demonstrate the various approaches.

摘要:
The two-dimensional equations of generalized thermoelasticity are solved for the case of a heated punch moving across the surface of a semi-infinite thermoelastic half-space subject to appropriate boundary conditions. The exponential Fourier transform with respect to one space variable in a coordinate system moving with the punch is applied. The resulting equations are solved and numerical results are given. The results are compared with those obtained by Roberts for the coupled thermoelastic case.

摘要:
The coupled thermoviscoplasticiry equations for a thick-walled cylinder subjected to thermomechanical loading at the inner surface are presented and implemented in a finite-element program. The numerical solution for a steel cylinder subjected to a single traction and temperature pulse shows considerable temperature rise due to mechanical energy dissipation. The results also suggest a criterion for the yield stress in order to avoid failure due to excessive viscoplastic deformation at the inner surface.

摘要:
The first variation of a general integral functional, representing either an objective function or a constraint, is evaluated by the adjoint variable method for the sensitivity analysis in a material and load optimization problem for a thermoelastic solid body. Primary and adjoint problems are defined in order to facilitate the derivation in terms of only design function variations.

摘要:
A material and load optimization problem in thermoelasticity has been investigated for an infinite solid slab. The objective function of optimization involves linearly combined physical objectives, and there are behavioral constraints on heat flux and stress distributions. Sensitivity analysis results of a companion paper are used to derive analytical expressions for the primary and adjoint variables and also for the sensitivity coefficient of ‘functional’. Nonlinear programming methods of constrained minimization are then used to calculate optimal design parameters.
