摘要:
In a modern rolling mill, proper roll cooling has been identified as a critical factor in the problems of excessive roll wear and poor surface finish of rolled product. In this paper, an analytical solution to determine the cyclic stresses produced in the roll is developed. An understanding of the cyclic stresses can be utilized to evaluate roll wear and leads to proper cooling practices for increasing roll life and better product surface quality. In the present analysis, a rotating roll subjected to surface heat fluxes and convective cooling is considered under the assumption that it rotates at high speeds. The methods of the thermoelastic displacement potential and the general stress function are used to solve the governing partial differential equations in order to calculate the thermal stresses. Examples of typical rolling conditions are given to demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the model developed

摘要:
Boundary fitted coordinate variables are used to map the region of interest into a square. The governing transient heat conduction and displacement equilibrium equations are rewritten in terms of the new coordinate variables and are solved by a direct power series approach through the application of the Lanczos-Chebyshev and the discrete least squares methods. A finite cylindrical cone section is used to demonstrate how numerical solutions can be obtained

摘要:
First we derive a new reciprocal theorem in the dynamic theory of thermoelasticity. We prove that the new reciprocity relation implies the classical one and the uniqueness. We also prove that the reciprocal theorem established in this paper leads to minimum principles in thermoelastodynamics

摘要:
A numerical method is proposed for Green and Lindsay' s dynamic thermoelasticity problems. The semidiscrete equations resulting from standard finite element formulations are mathematically manipulated so that the-resulting coupled heat equation and elastic equations both become symmetric. Such process allows for taking advantage of the traditional uncoupled thermal-structural solution procedures. Unconditionally stable time integration schemes are recommended to solve these matrix equations. The proposed technique is very effective and versatile in solving both finite speed thermal wave and stress wave propagation problems

摘要:
The propagation of one-dimensional acceleration waves in linear thermoelastic materials with thermal memory is analyzed. It is shown that two types of waves may exist, and the properties of velocities and attenuation of these waves are examined. The obtained results are compared with the data of the previous works

摘要:
Solutions for thermal stress singularities infinite bonded strips are sought by using an eigenfunction expansion in the neighborhood of the singularity. The coefficients in the resulting series are determined by satisfying the boundary conditions on surfaces far removed from the singularity either pointwise or in an integrated sense. The latter of these techniques is found to be more reliable. The accuracy of the solution is checked by comparing it to a semianalytical solution for thermal stresses in bonded quarter planes, which is derived by using the Mellin transformation. It is shown that the eigenfunction approach provides accurate solutions for the leading term in the series, thus capturing the essence of the thermal stress fields near the edge of the interface. The far-field solutions, however, are found to feature excessive inaccuracies, which are attributed to numerical errors

摘要:
The problem of heat conduction of a thermoelaslic cylindrical medium composed of two different materials is considered. The problem is solved in the framework of the generalized thermoelasticity theory with one relaxation time. The solution is obtained in the Laplace transform domain by using the potential function approach. Numerical inversion formula is used to obtain the corresponding solutions in the physical domain
