摘要:
A general analysis is developed for the complete three-dimensional transient thermal-stress distribution in a finite circular cylinder subject to arbitrary heating of the lateral surface with arbitrary heat transfer into the surrounding medium. The problem is formulated in terms of the modified Boussinesq functions and the thermoelastic displacement potential, which seem convenient in form and have the advantage of being applicable to non-axisymmetric problems. The solution meets the tractionfree boundary conditions on both the lateral surface and the plane ends of the cylinder. Graphical illustrations are provided.

摘要:
A constitutive relation for a viscoelastic-plastic body is derived by employing a scalar and a tensorial internal variable that include viscous effects as well as plastic strain and the heardening parameter. Emphasis is placed on the characterization of the variables, which are closely related to creep strain, and the material parameters are determined from data from conventional tension and creep tests. The model is applied to the analysis of successive deformation of a thin-walled tube subjected to internal pressure under cyclic temperature variations. The correlation between the analytical and experimental results is discussed.

摘要:
The deformation and stress fields in an isotropic elastic circular cylinder subject to axial extension and torsion and a uniform change of temperature are shown to be governed by an integrodifferential equation that, when adapted to a recently proposed model of rubberlike thermoelasticity, has a convenient power-series solution. On this basis approximate expressions are obtained for the resultant torque and end force acting on the cylinder and for the portions of these resultants attributable to internal energy changes. Special cases are considered—notably a phenomenological analog of Flory's theory of Gaussian networks—and the paper concludes with a comparison of theoretical predictions and measurements by Boyce and Treloar of the energetic fraction of the torque on a twisted rubber cylinder.

摘要:
Thermally induced deformations and stress resultants in symmetric laminated plates are analyzed. The method of M. Levy is used to study the transverse bending of a specially orthotropic laminate having two simply supported edges and subject to a temperature distribution that does not vary in a direction parallel to the simple supports. A solution is also obtained for the problem of in-plane stretching of the plate middle surface caused by a general three-dimensional temperature field. As an illustrative example, the thermoelastic response of a unidirectionally fiber-reinforced plate to a temperature variation that is linear in the thickness direction is computed.

摘要:
The quasistatic thertnoelastic equations for radially monoclinic cylindrical shells are solved in closed form for arbitrary temperature distributions and boundary conditions. In addition to both mechanical and thermal material anisotropy, the effects of shear deformation are admitted in the governing shell field equations. The solution to the governing thermomechanical noncanonical field equations is obtained through the use of integral transformations employed in conjunction with the application of adjoint differential operators. To illustrate the substantial effects of mechanical and thermal material anisotropy, the results of several numerical experiments are studied in detail.

摘要:
The thermal responses in a thin cylindrical shell of graphite material with finite length, subjected to an instantaneous thermal shock, are investigated. Closed-form solutions for the thermal stresses and displacements caused by a line source along the circumferential direction are obtained by integrating the fundamental solutions for a point heat source acting on a finite, orthotropic, cylindrical, thin shell. Grade ZTA graphite is used in the numerical examples. As expected, orthotropic thermal and mechanical properties significantly affect the induced displacements and thermal stresses in the shell due to the thermal shocks.

摘要:
Expressions for the state of stress associated with an ellipsoidal cavity in an infinite elastic medium are derived for the case of uniform temperature on the cavity surface. Specialization of the general stress solutions to determine the stress intensity factors for elliptic cracks is accomplished by collapsing the cavity to the case of a very flat ellipsoidal cavity (c ↦0 )Of Numerical results revealing the ellipsoidal-cavity thermal-stress concentrations and profiles are presented.
