摘要:
The quenching of a thick-walled viscoplastic cylinder cooled from To = 320°C down to room temperature is examined. The transient thermomechanical problem is partitioned into the staggered solution of thermal-heat conduction and elastic-viscoplastic response behavior using finite elements. Fully implicit time operators are applied to both field problems, which are coupled on one side by the mechanical heat production of thermoelasticity and thermoviscoplasticity and on the other by the ensuing thermal expansion due to temperature transients. In both analysis steps a quasi-Newton technique (BFGS algorithm) is applied for solving the implicit nonlinear problem within each time step. In this way the entire coupled thermomechanical response is monitored incrementally, starting from the initially pressurized condition at elevated temperature up to the steady-state behavior at room temperature after quenching.

摘要:
Closed-form and finite-element solutions are presented for the thermoelastic behavior of laminated composite shells. The material of each layer is assumed to be thermoelastically orthotropic and bimodular, that is, having different properties depending upon whether the fiber-direction normal strain is tensile or compressive. The formulations are based on the thermoelastic generalization of Dong and Tso 's laminated shell theory, which includes thickness shear deformations. The finite element used here has five degrees of freedom per node (three displacements and two bending slopes). Numerical results are presented for deflections and the positions of the neutral surfaces associated with bending along both coordinate directions. The closed-form and finite-element results are found to be in good agreement.

摘要:
When moisture concentration and/or temperature are suddenly changed on the boundary of a solid, stresses and strains are introduced and these can be further aggravated by the presence of stress raisers such as voids or cavities. In this paper, a time-dependent finite-element procedure is developed for solving the hygrothermal stresses around a circular cavity in a finite plate. Numerical results are displayed graphically for the T300/5208 graphite fiber-reinforced epoxy-resin material. The size of the hole relative to the plate is varied for three different cases, such that the interaction of mositure and temperature is investigated in conjunction with changes in the solid geometry.

摘要:
The development of a numerical analysis is outlined for an electric current collector or brush treated as a thin half-disk, which has a small contact patch near the center of its straight edge. A quasi-steady electric current is applied, providing a distributed heat source which leads to a transient temperature field, At each time interval, the relative displacement between the center and edge of the contact patch is calculated. Results show monotonic progression of the relative displacement toward its steady-state value, and they give evidence of the effects of boundary conditions on the time required to equilibriate the system.

摘要:
The Norton-Bailey power law for material creep is used to predict the time-dependent lateral deflection of flat rectangular plates. In particular, the plates considered have a through-thickness steady-state temperature distribution. This effect is considered by using Maxwell's law to modify the power creep law. The plate lateral-deflection equations are derived for creep exponents of 3 and 5, using the “sandwich plate element” frequently used to predict creep buckling of plates, ft is shown that, for one engineering material, the predictions have approximately the same degree of agreement with experimental data as have the respective creep laws.

摘要:
The thermoelastic problem of a finite circular cylinder is analyzed under a uniform temperature change and with a perfectly constrained end surface. The present problem is reduced to a solution of the infinite set of linear algebraic equations. Numerical calculations are carried out for three geometries, and both of the displacements on the free surfaces and the stresses on the constrained surface are shown graphically.

摘要:
The general problem of the one-dimensional linearized simultaneous equations of magnetothermoelasticity has been solved in the Laplace transform domain by following the state space approach of modern control theory. The results obtained can be used to generate solutions in the Laplace transform domain to a broad class of problems in magnetothermoelasticity. Application to a problem pertaining to a conducting half-space is presented, and the result is in complete agreement with the existing literature of magnetothermoelasticity.
