Adenocarcinoma of the jejunum associated with pregnancy is reported. Diagnosis was delayed because of the similarity of the clinical picture to that usually associated with hyperemesis gravidarum. Six months after partial resection of the jejunum, ovarian metastasis occurred.

It is characteristic of the Macaca mulatta to have a bidiscoid placenta. Higher apes and human beings most often have a single discoid placenta. It is shown that placentation atypical for the species may occur in all primates, including human beings. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that atrophic chorionic villi remnants are present in the fetal membranes of placenta duplex of either human or macaque origin. These remnants occur only in decidua capsularis. Therefore, it is suspected that all primates, at least those with villous placentas, possess a decidua capsularis.

The definition of adolescence emphasizes its sexual nature; it begins with the first physical evidence of sexual maturation and ends with the complete development of primary and secondary sexual characteristics. It is important for all physicians to understand this rapidly changing period during which unique developmental tasks are accomplished. With the experimental and observational elucidation of the dynamics of emotional conflicts that produce physical change, there is no reason for the ethical gynecologist to be ignorant in this area. As illustrated by three clinical examples, secondary amenorrhea can be a defense mechanism on which a struggling adolescent depends for a hold on sanity. The gynecologist must recognize this type of amenorrhea and help the girl by examination, studies, and explanations. If he does not, parents may send her to a gynecologist more willing to comply with their wishes for her to start menstruation.

An uncommon set of monoamniotic twins surviving their birth, 1 of whom continues alive and well at 1 year of age, is depicted. Both twins had a normal female karyotype. The authors' review indicates that the salvage of monamniotic twins, in spite of the fetal hazards, has improved during recent years.

The key to management of shoulder dystocia is release of the anterior shoulder. If the head and neck are pressed posteriorly and upward toward the rectum, the anterior shoulder is dislodged from above the symphysis. Subsequent strong fundal pressure provides the force to complete delivery.

Experience with and observations upon 28 women who had herpatic vulvitis led the author to review the entire subject of genitally localized viral infections. Emphasis is placed upon the importance of the cytologic finding of the characteristic multinucleated giant cells with typical inclusions, the painfully incapacitating nature of the lesions, and the difficulties of treatment.

Placement of newly designed, silver-plated hemostatic clips around the cervix following sharp conization in 72 women reduced the occurrence of postoperative cervical hemorrhage and obviated the need for subsequent dilatation of the cervix. The construction of the clip is such that it spontaneously weakens and separates, facilitating removal 14 days later.
