摘要:
ABSTRACTVirus‐like particles (VLPs) have been found in cells of the colonial, chrysophycean algaHydrurus foetidus(Vill.) Trev. The infected cells, probably zoospores, were discovered in material fixed directly in the field. The VLPs appear either hexagonal or pentagonal when sectioned and are therefore presumed to be icosahedra, They are 50–60 nm diam. and demonstrate distinct trilaminar coals. The VLPs were observed in the cytoplasm, but not in the chloroplast or nucl

摘要:
ABSTRACTFour species of bluegreen algae were tested for possible effect on the protozoanParamecium caudatumEhrenberg. Toxicity was demonstrated using lyophilized cells ofFischerella epiphyticaGhose andGloeotrichia echinulata(Smith) Richter.Nostoc linckia(Roth) Bornet&Thuret failed to show any effects when lyophilized but became toxic when sonified.Anabaena flos‐aquae(Lyngb.) Bréb. was nontoxic in all tests.G. echinulatawas lethal at 0.1 mg·ml−1which is comparable to the toxic concentration ofAphanizomenon flos‐aquae(L.) Ralfs reported for microcrus

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe ultrastructure of the Noctiluca miliaris Suriray from Southest Asian waters which contains the green flagellate,Pedinomonas noctilucae(Subrahmanyan) Sweeney, is in all major respects similar to that of the European strain. New details of the thecal vesicles, pellicle and underlying microtubules are presented. The possibility that the lipid vesicles are identical with the strongly phase‐retarding bodies in the surface cytoplasm, some of which are “microsources” of bioluminescence, is sugg
