摘要:
This paper suggests a framework for acquisition of new manufacturing technology that links the manufacturing strategy, market requirements and manufacturing attributes using an expert system approach. This paper takes a closer took at traditional notion of manufacturing-marketing coordination and attempts to find its links with manufacturing capabilities provided by recent evolving new manufacturing technology. For this purpose we deal with different steps involved in the strategic evaluation process beginning with the choice of a suitable competitive strategy by a firm. Then the chosen competitive strategy is linked with the market requirements, system attributes and appropriate manufacturing technology choices. The proposed model is integrated by an expert system approach that includes strategic factors of both a tangible and an intangible nature and is implemented by using the VP-Expert shell.

摘要:
There is a great deal of interest in the use of multicnteria decision making models in the evaluation of capital investment projects. These models allow the user to bring difficult-to-quantify criteria into the investment decision. One example of this type is the nontraditional capital investment criteria (NCIC) method. In this paper we extend this method to include imprecision in the evaluation of the importance of criteria. This is done using fuzzy sets, either as triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) or as linguistic variables. As in the case of NCIC using crisp sets, we provide consistency checks on the pairwise comparisons of decision makers and interpret the vector weights from the pairwise comparisons in monetary terms.

摘要:
This study examines the influence of a number of key organizational characteristics on the extent of use of risk analysis in capital budgeting. Using factor analysis and regression analysis, the results indicate that managers who use risk analysis more extensively tend to be those who work in organizations that are characterized by greater risk taking, supportive information systems, longer-term incentive schemes, and high socioeconomic uncertainty. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

摘要:
In 1993, Arcelus and Srinivasan [1] considered a comprehensive model integrating the main components of working capital decisions within a discounted cash flow framework. They presented three approximations to the optimal procurement policy. Sometimes, however, these approximations may yield significant cost penalties. This paper first proves that the objective functions of discounted infinite horizon present value are concave. Second, bounds for the optimal procurement policy are derived. Third, with these bounds, a simple and accurate algorithm to locate the optimal procurement policy is developed, Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the algorithm.

摘要:
Case studies have long been used to supplement material in engineering economy courses. To develop these studies is difficult in that the amount of information provided to the student may either trivialize the project or complicate it beyond reason. However, with the wealth of information on the Worldwide Web, this task has become easier. A case study involving the replacement of automobiles is presented and classroom experiences are shared.
