摘要:
This paper reports the findings of a survey of 427 large hospitals nationwide. The survey provided information regarding the techniques employed as primary and secondary tools of capital budgeting, the percentage of capital projects formally evaluated, the methods used in capital budgeting, the qualitative factors which influence the capital budgeting decisions and the extent of their impact in determining the acceptance decision, and the nature and frequency of involvement of the medical staff in major capital investment decisions.

摘要:
This paper describes a Monte Carlo simulation which investigates the efficacy of different discount rate policies for computing the present worths of mutually exclusive investments. The paper first provides models of reinvestment to explain the rationale behind the use of different discount rates. Then simulation is used to evaluate which policy results in better decisions. The presentation of the simulation begins with an explanation of the system logic and a documentation of the experimental design. This is followed by the determination of an optimal policy for selecting a discount rate and a sensitivity analysis.

摘要:
Surveys find that the majority of firms utilize credit limits. However, most trade-credit models show a dichotomous result: either credit is granted or it is refused. In this paper, a single-period model of the trade credit-granting decision is developed which incorporates the portfolio effects of credit granting on the seller's cash inflows and therefore on its probability of cash stockout. In this model, the credit limit serves as a mechanism to control these portfolio effects and thus hedge against such stockouts.

摘要:
Equivalent annuities are often used to compare mutually exclusive alternatives with unequal lives. This comparison assumes identical repetitions until a horizon equal to the least common multiple of the lives. Our paper examines the robustness of the equivalent annual cost (EAC) measure as the identical repetition assumption is violated, considering the following: premature project terminations, subsequent cost changes, differing discount rates, projected salvage values, and the amount and profile of annual costs. The paper concludes with a relative sensitivity analysis that highlights the impact these variables have on potential decisions.
