摘要:
Ten new species of Mollusca are described from Kaiatan (Upper Eocene) beds at McCullough's Bridge, South Canterbury, and Lome, North Otago. These include the first New Zealand records ofPseudomalaxisandColubraria. Species ofCondylocardia,Pareora,Opimilda,Mathildona,Fimbriatella, andCheileaare also described, and a brief review of New Zealand species of the Mathildidae is included.Notogrammatodon, a new subgenus ofPseudogrammatodon(Arcidae), is proposed, withP. (Notogrammatodon) inexpectalusn. sp. as type.Eosirius(with typeE. admeteformisn. sp.) is proposed as a new genus of the Trichotropidae. Both these groups appear to have representatives in the Australian Tertiary.

摘要:
In Landon Creek, the type locality of the Duntroonian Stage, the sequence is as follows (ascending order): McDonald Limestone (lower Whaingaroon); disconformity and bored surface; blocky limestone penetrated by greensand; Kokoamu Greensand (Duntroonian); Otekaike Limestone (Lower Waitakian to Duntroonian) passing laterally into thin rubbly limestone conglomerate; disconformity and bored surface; Gee Greensand (Otaian).

摘要:
Asterocyclina speightihas been found at a new locality, along the Waihao River in South Canterbury. The genus appears to range throughout the Eocene in New Zealand, although in other regions it is common only in the middle and upper Eocene.

摘要:
Pyrope, augite, and hornblende occur as xenocrysts in a volcanic breccia of Whaingaroan (Lower Oligocene) age at Kakanui. The pyrope has the composition Py66·4Al20·0Gr10·9An2·1Sp0·6;n= 1 · 741;D= 3 · 72;a= 11·536 Å. The augite is an aluminous variety with tschermakitic affinities; α = 1·686, β = 1·691, γ = 1·713; optically positive, 2V = 55°;D= 3·33. The hornblende is a hastingsite; α = 1·676, β = 1·687, γ = 1·695; optically negative, 2V = 80°;D= 3·22. The occurrence and associations of these minerals suggest that they originated in the upper mantle.

摘要:
Calcareous nannoplankton from Haumurian to Waipawan strata in Mid-Waipara section indicate three distinctive biostratigraphic zones similar to those across the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary in Europe and North America. The lowest zone (uppermost Haumurian) containsDeflandrius cretaceus ?, Kamptnerius magnificus, Nephrolithus barbarae, and other species diagnostic of the Upper Cretaceous. The middle zone (Lower to Middle Teurian) lacks species diagnostic of the Cretaceous and contains only species which have Danian affinities. It is divided into two subzones: the lower subzone is marked by the entry ofCoccolithus danicusandZygolithus concinnus, and the upper subzone by the entry ofCoccolithus bisulcus. The highest zone recognised (lowermost Waipawan) is correlated with the Upper PaleoceneDiscoaster multiradiatuszone of Bramlette and Sullivan.

摘要:
It is argued that the primary categories of the Code proposed by the American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature, and adopted by other national codes—namely, rock-stratigraphic, biostratigraphic, and time-stratigraphic units—constitute a false trilogy, based on faulty premises and expressed in unnecessarily involved jargon.

摘要:
The fossil has a right valve like that ofAucellina andinaFeruglio, but the left hinge has a backward-sloping subumbonal cleft limiting the ligament and differing from any other Aucellinoid yet described. No name is given, because of the possibility of malformation. Figures of the left hinges ofAucellina euglyphaWoods,Aucellinacf.hughendenensisEtheridge, andMalayomaoricaare given for comparison. The age is probably mid-Cretaceous.

摘要:
Eight foraminiferal samples were collected from the type section of the Tahuian Stage, South Canterbury, New Zealand. The position of samples is shown in a lithological column and the distribution of Foraminifera is shown on a range chart. The Tahuian Stage is found to be equivalent partly to Bortonian and partly to Kaiatan (middle and upper Eocene respectively).

摘要:
Globigerinidae with two or more apertures found in lower to middle Miocene samples from Oamaru and Clifden (New Zealand) are described in terms of rate of expansion of chambers, relation between observed and theoretical diameters for the penultimate chamber, and angle of attachment of the final chamber. In the samples examined the experimental class includes forms usually assigned toGlobigerinoides trilobus(Reuss),G. bisphericusTodd,G. glomerosusBlow,Orbulina suturalisBronnimann, andO. universad'Orbigny.
