摘要:
Ten species of the Sinuopeidae and Eotomariidae from the Permian of New Zealand are described. One genus,Pandospira, is new, with two new described species,P. nudaandP. fimbriae. Other named new species areWalnicholsia minuta, Platyteichum spirolaxum, andP. loratum.

摘要:
A highly weathered, rhyolitic volcanic ash bed in the Mangaroa district is described, and its geological setting is discussed. This vnicanic ash bed is named the “Mangaroa Ash”. Its age is probably Late Pleistocene.

摘要:
A sequence of Pleistocene valley glaciers is discussed in terms of a new geomorphic mapping unit, analogous to the formation in stratigraphy. Alandform associationis defined as a subdivision of a landscape in which the landforms have such an ordered arrangement, consistency of slopes, uniformity of erosional development and degree of obliteration of detail as would indicate that they originated together as a land surface.

摘要:
The two ends of a femur similar in size to that ofArchaespheniscus loweiMarples, but possibly representing an unnamed small ,pecies ofPalaeeudyptes, from the Whaingaroan Stage of Motutara Point, Kawhia Harbour, are the first Tertiary penguin fossils recorded from the North Island of New Zealand.

摘要:
Surface magnetic permeability measurements on some of the Taranaki ironsand deposits using anin situpermeability bridge are reported. The variation of iron ore concentration along the coast from Wanganui to Patea is discussed with particular reference to the effect of topographical features such as river mouths on the distribution. It is found that such features have a marked effect, indicating that sampling techniques may lead to erroneous values for the amount of iron ore present. It is concluded that the mechanism responsible for the concentration of the ironsands is probably a combination of sea- and wind-sorting, with the latter being the more efficient.

摘要:
Earthquakes have recently occurred under the North Island of New Zealand, near 39° S, 175° E, at various depths down to 600 km. First-motion patterns of apparently opposite sense have been found for two groups of earthquakes with virtually the same epicentre but depths of about 230 and 600 km respectively. First motions are referred to the focal sphere; the commonly used “extended distance” method of displaying the results has the disadvantage of giving undue prominence to readings from distant phases. Comparisons of these New Zealand earthquakes among themselves and with the deep Spanish earthquake of 1954 suggest that the mechanism of earthquakes is not so closely related to surface geological features as has been supposed.

摘要:
Some years ago, the notion of isallo stress was introduced; the isallo stress values can be ascertained from the fault patterns in certain areas. The present paper shows how the complete trajectories of the tectonic stresses can be obtained from isallo stress values.

摘要:
Two new formation names are proposed—Omihi Formation (older) and Waikari Formation (younger). The Omihi Formation consists of five members: Berrydale Greensand, Gorries Creek Greensand, Tekoa Tuffs, Flaxdown limestone, and a redefined Weka Pass Stone. The Flaxdown limestone stratigraphically succeeds the Tekoa Tuffs in north-west North Canterbury. Elsewhere the members grade laterally into one another. Hence the names apply rather to the facies variants of the Omihi Formation.

摘要:
At Cape Foulwind specimens ofTextularia kapiteaFinlay from six samples show a well defined evolutionary change with time. Two subspecies, one of early to middle Kapitean (Pontian) and one of late Kapitean to early Opoitian (Plaisancian) age, are established.Textularia miozeaappears to be an earlier member of the evolutionary lineage.
