The taxonomy of the sand boaG. colubrinus(L. 1758) and applications of multivariate modelling to the periodic processes that occur within populations of this species will be discussed in the next paper of this series (TOKAR 1996). Here a taxonomic revision of the two remaining species of genusGongylophis (conicusandmuelleri) is presented. It is believed that both are monotypic species. The paper has a key and a brief description of all threeGongylophisspecies.

A reexamination of the type collection ofPlumatella javanicaKraepelin 1906, a freshwater ectoproct in the family Plumatellidae, provided an opportunity to review the morphology of the colony and compare observations of the type with various published accounts of the species. A study of the floatoblast, a resting structure important in freshwater ectoproct systematics, using scanning electron microscopy, has revealed or resolved previously undocumented characters and provides a basis for comparison with other described species ofPlumatella.It is emphasized that examination of types of other species in the genus be carried out to help clarify the status of various described species, especially those occurring in tropical regions.

Eleven species of tardigrades are recorded from the National Park of Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). Two of these species,Minihiotus africanusandDoryphorihius maranguensis, are new to science.Echiniscus scabrospinosusFontoura 1982,Macrobiotus snaresensisHorning et al. 1978, andItaquascon umbellinaeBarros 1939 are new to the African fauna.

The Mexican and Central American species ofAmblyopinusSolsky 1875, adults of which are usually found in the fur of rodents, are revised. All species are fully described, and keys and illustrations of diagnostic features are provided to aid in their identification. A substantial quantity of new host and distributional data is provided. Five species, one of which consists of two subspecies, are known from Mexico and Central AmericaAmblyopinus emarginatusSeevers 1955(sanbornigroup) occurs in the montane regions of northwestern Panama and Costa Rica where it occurs onOryzomys albigularis.In addition, four species and two subspecies of thejelskiigroup occur in Central America and Mexico:A. isabellaeBarrera 1966, Sierra Madre del Sur in Mexico (host[s] various species ofPeromyscusandNeotoma); A. barreraiZaragoza Caballero & Sánchez Hernández 1993, Sierra Madre de Oaxaca in Mexico (host[s],Peromyscusspecies, especiallyP. melanocarpus); A. schmidti schmidtiSeevers 1944, highlands of Chiapas and Guatemala (host, primarilyPeromyscus guatemalensis); A. schmidti bolivariBarrera et al. 1960, Transvolcanic Sierra of Mexico (host, primarilyMicrotus mexicanus); A. titoniBarrera 1966, highlands of northwestern Panama and Costa Rica (host[s],Peromyscus nudipesandReithrodontomys creper).The hosts ofA. emarginatusin both Central and South America are complex-penis cricetines, primarilyOryzomys albigularis.However, the Mexican and Central American members of thejelskiigroup exhibit two major host transfers: to simple-penis peromyscine rodents(A. isabellae, A. barrerai, A. s. schmidti, A. tipitoni);and, to microtine rodents of the genusMicrotus (A. s. bolivari). All five taxa of thejelskiigroup have allopatric ranges in different mountain systems. OnlyA. tiptoniandA. emarginatushave sympatric ranges in the montane regions of northwestern Panama and Costa Rica, but these two species are in different species groups and live on different hosts.

The eyprepocnemidine grasshopper generaTylotropidiusStåi 1873 andTropidiopsisI. Bolivar 1911 are revised and redefined. Identification keys, based mainly on male characters, are provided for all recognised taxa. Two genera,TylotropidiusandTropidiopsis, have been split into clearly defined generic groupings. Two new generaParaprocticusn. gen. andMalonjeacrisn. gen. together with three new species,Tylotropidius trimaculatusn. sp.,Metaxymecus brevipennen. sp.,Paraprocticus naliendelensisn. sp. are described. The genusMetaxymecusKarsch 1893 rev. gen. is reinstated from synonymy. One lectotype designation is made forTylotropidius ceylonicusBrunner 1893 and the following new synonymies are proposed:Tylotropidius congoensisSjöstedt 1931 =T. didymusn. syn.,Tylotropidius didymusvar.violaceaI.
