摘要:
Trichoscapa inusitatan. sp. is described from southern Venezuela. It is unlike any other Neotropical member of short-mandibulate Dacetini, bearing closer resemblance to some species from SE Asia. Its relationship with other dacetines can not be determined until a generic revision of these ants is carried out.

摘要:
Hemilepistus reaumuri(Audouin & Savigny 1826) forms a large proportion of the woodlice in the neighbourhood of Benghazi, Libya. Laboratory observations, over a period of 7 days, were made to study the effects of sub-lethal concentrations of the pesticides Lannate and Lebaycid (insecticides), Remiltine (fungicide) and Glyphosate (herbicide). These are in common use in farms around Benghazi. Pesticides had a significant influence on survival rates, body weights and rates of oxygen consumption in both sexes. Survival was adversely affected by exposure to Lebaycid and Glyphosate, and all four pesticides had an adverse influence on body weight. Rates of oxygen consumption of pesticide-treated woodlice showed an increase during the initial exposure. They tended to level off towards the end of the experimental period. The ecological implications of these findings are discussed.

摘要:
Coccinellids in the forest floor vegetation in five different forest habitats in Kibale Forest, Western Uganda were studied by monthly sweep net sampling. Four of habitats were sampled during 23 months from July 1983 to May 1985 and one during 17 months plus one sample set from each in September 1986. The studied habitats were two virgin forest sites, two selectively logged sites and one exotic pine plantation. Altogether 70 coccinellid species were found. The first study year had a much higher number of coccinellids than the second one. The peak numbers of coccinellids per sample were found between January and May 1984. The most common species during the first study year,Scymnus kibonotensisWeise 1910 andS. nummeliniFürsch 1990, disappeared and were not present during the second and the third sampling year.S. kibaliensisFürsch 1990 was the only species occurring mainly in the virgin forest. Several managed forest species were not found in virgin forest. Logged forest sites and the exotic pine plantation had higher species numbers than virgin forest sites. In managed sites herbivorous coccinellids were much more common than in virgin sites. The species compositions of all sites differed significantly from each other. The two logged sites were close to each other in species factor analysis, all other sites formed their own group.

摘要:
Tetrigidae (Orthoptera) from the Indian region, lodged in the Lyman Entomological Museum of McGill University, have been studied. Two new species,Potua apteran. sp. andBolivaritettix nathanin. sp., are described. The hitherto unknown male ofEpitettix tamilusGünther 1939, and females ofCriotettix latifronsHebard 1929, andLamellitettix fletcheriHancock 1915 are also described for the first time. The following species are synonymized:Hedotettix cristatusKarny 1915, withH. punctatusHancock 1909; andThoradonta pruthiiGünther 1938, withTh. sinuataHancock 1915. In addition,Loxibolus parvispinusHancock 1912, is considered to be but a form of L.acutusHancock 1904, and the nameCoptotettix rugosus(Hancock 1904) is reinstated in place ofC. hancocki(Kirby 1910).

摘要:
Hagensia Havilandi(Forel 1901) is a forest-dwelling ant related to species in the generaPachycondylaSmith 1858 andDiacammaMayr 1862. Mated workers fill The reproductive function of the queen caste, which has been lost. There is only one mated worker in each colony, but 8–42 virgin workers. Facultative, complete sterility in virgin workers appears to be brought about by physical interaction with the mated worker. Division of labour in colonies OfH. Havilandiis similar to that of other queenless ponerine ants.

摘要:
Instar III larvae of the following six Ethiopian species ofAgabusLeach 1817 are described for the first time,ambulator-group:A. loeffleriWewalka & Nilsson 1990;raffrayi-group:A. raffrayiSharp 1882;ragazzii-group:A. perssoniNilsson 1992,A. crypticoidesRégimbart 1895,A. abessinicus(Zimmermann 1928), andA. galamensisNilsson 1992. Descriptions are based on larvae collected together with adults. Larvae of theragazzii-group have urogomphi with numerous secondary spines and all primary setae spiniform. Tergal setae are short and spiniform in theambulator-andragazzii-groups, whereas they are long in theraffrayi-group. All species have legs with many secondary spines, and the highest numbers were found in the species of theragazzii-group.

摘要:
In a mangrove near the delta of the Tana river (Kenya) the capacity of orientation was tested in a mudskipper belonging to the genusperiophtbalmusBloch & Schneider 1801. Release experiments showed that the fish were capable of a zonal recovery. This phenomenon can be interpreted as the initial phase of orientation towards a preferred site. The possible mechanisms that underlie the phenomenon are discussed.

摘要:
The subfamily Cacodminae (Heteroptera Cimicidae) comprised seven genera of bugs all of which have species occurring in Africa. A new, eighth genus is described from specimens collected under a rock on a farm outside Nelspruit, Transvaal, South Africa. Descriptions and illustrations are provided. A revised key to the genera is given.

摘要:
Wasps ofBelonogaster juncea juncea(Fabricius),Ropalidia guttatipennis(saussure) andPolybioides tabida(Fabricius) harvest the honeydew dropped onto leaves by various species of homopterans, or can tend homopterans directly. All three species of wasps exploit Aleyrodidae; R.guttatipennisandP. tabidacan milk Coccidae and Tettigometridae whilstp. tabidahas also been observed tending Aphididae.

The hitherto unknown male ofAllodapula keiseri(Benoist 1962) is described. The species is transferred toHalterapisMichener 1969 on the basis of male genitalia. the other Malagasy species ofAllodapulaCockerell 1934 are known only from adult females and are also likely to belong to the genusHalterapis.
