摘要:
In 1983, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission experienced a fire involving tube settlers in a settling basin at the Patuxent Water Filtration Plant. The fire, which occurred in a section of the plant being rehabilitated by a construction company, started when tube settlers made of acrylo‐nitrile‐butadiene‐styrene (ABS) were ignited by a piece of hot metal. This article stresses precautions that must be taken around materials made of ABS.

摘要:
This article emphasizes the importance of proper lubrication in maintaining motors in peak operating condition. Grease is frequently used as a lubricant because it provides good sealing, it is retained in the bearings, and it permits longer service intervals. Suggestions for selecting the proper grease and for regreasing procedures are discussed. This is a reprint of an article which appeared in the April 1984 issue of EC&M (Electrical Construction and Maintenance).

摘要:
The Bowling Green (Kentucky) Municipal Utilities treatment plant conducted a series of in‐plant polymer trials to determine the effectiveness of these chemicals as coagulant aids. Prospective polymer suppliers were allowed to test their products mat the plant during scheduled time periods. Besides allowing the utility to cut costs in coagulants, the trials elicited the following information: location of the feed system is vital; decrease in total volume of sludge is obvious; increase in filter runs and decrease in wash water needed to clean filters is achieved; and an immediate buffer for the NTU changes is provided.
