摘要:
This article emphasizes the complexities involved in dealing with taste and odor problems in water. Two basic requirements are essential for the constant prevention of tastes and odors in drinking water supplies: intake sites should represent the best raw water quality for the area being served; and the best combination of appropriate treatment processes should be in routine practice to ensure both a potable and palatable water for the consumer.

摘要:
Lubrication is usually the first line of defense in the maintenance of water treatment equipment. It is certainly a major area of concern with regard to clarifiers, grit removal equipment, and all types of pumps. This article explains how the use of a “lube chart” will be helpful for identifying the following: major and subequipment items; exact type of lubricant for each item; frequency of inspection and change of lubricant; and the individual responsible for lubrication maintenance.

摘要:
Some chemical companies offer a substantial discount if your order totals enough chemicals to make a truckload. When buying from companies supplying more than one chemical, the procedure described allows you to determine how much of each chemical to order so that: the total order will equal a truckload; the various chemicals ordered will all be depleted again at the same time; allowing you to buy chemicals at the rate you use them. The calculations also tell how many days the order can be expected to last.

摘要:
Dry aluminum sulfate should be handled with care because it is an acid salt and could cause irritation to eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. Protective clothing such as a hat, gloves, goggles, a respirator and a slicker suit should be worn. Avoid spilling liquid aluminum sulfate as it becomes slick after evaporation, and will deteriorate ferrous metals. First aid can be accomplished by washing with a great amount of water (cuts, eyes, and skin). Materials for the proper handling and storage of alum liquor are also given.
