摘要:
To spread the message of water conservation to its 3.3 million consumers, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power cosponsors a water conservation gardens contest. Prizes are $1000, $500, and $250. The contest began in 1986, with 34 entries. In 1987, 50 homeowners entered. Details of the contest, including sponsors, categories, entering, judging, and prizes are discussed.

摘要:
Pumping tests of water supply wells, when properly planned and conducted, can provide information about the performance and efficiency of the well being pumped. Measuring each well for pump and well yield, depth to water level, drawdown, and specific capacity should be done on a routine basis. These test results should be compared with previous tests to estimate current well and/or aquifer conditions. In addition, calculations can be made that are used to interpret groundwater aquifer performance. Four methods commonly used to measure the distance from a reference point to the water surface in a well are: wetted tape method, air line method, electrical sounder, and electronic/pneumatic transducer.

摘要:
In new construction, utilities have the opportunity to take action before corrosion begins in plumbing systems. Advisories about problems that may result from using certain materials with the water supplied by the utility may be issued. Suggestions for information to be included in advisories and a sample advisory for rapid pitting corrosion of copper tubing are presented.
