摘要:
Every utility should have a plan for dealing with disaster situations. A water system must be able to cope with any disaster and provide the needed water for drinking or fire fighting if necessary. A good emergency plan should be short and simple, personnel should be trained to handle any emergency, and the plan should be updated whenever needed. Included for reference is an emergency operations plan outline.

摘要:
Water is treated to make it aesthetically appealing to the consumer and to kill bacteria in order to make it free from disease‐causing organisms. However, with demands for water increasing, utilities must use water sources which are more contaminated than were previously accepted. New water treatment technology must be discovered in order to make this kind of water usable. One alternative to developing new treatment processes is the transfer of water from water‐rich to waterpoor areas. Now is the time to decide how future water needs will be met.
