摘要:
Many communities in North Dakota are using pressure‐vessel iron‐and‐manganese removal water treatment plants to remove undesirable metals from their water supply. This article discusses some facts and common operational procedures recommended by the North Dakota Department of Health, Division of Water Supply and Pollution Control, for this type of facility. Subjects covered include chemical addition, filter maintenance, chlorine monitoring, pumps and motors, and metering.

摘要:
The efforts of a repair crew from Indiana Cities Water Corporation in Wabash, Indiana, to repair a broken water main on Christmas Eve, 1983, are cited in this article as an example of the unfavorable conditions under which repair crews are sometimes required to work.

摘要:
Flow measurements, which are usually made somewhere near the upper end of a treatment plant, are used to control the flow rate to each treatment process, adjust chemical feed rates, determine pump efficiencies and power requirements, calculate detention times, monitor the amount of water treated, and calculate the unit cost of treatment. Inaccurate readings are misleading and costly. Flow measurements can be made in either pipelines or open channels. Four types of measuring devices suitable for pipelines–pressure differential meters, velocity meters, ultrasonic flow meters, and magnetic flow meters–are discussed in this article.

摘要:
A great deal of time and energy can be wasted in removing slip joint plugs after they have been installed. For this reason, an easy method of removing these plugs was developed. The author of this article describes this new method.
