摘要:
This article discusses the safe storage of laboratory chemicals. Proper chemical storage is necessary in order to avoid storing incompatible chemicals together. Storage of the following substances is addressed: acids, bases, flammable liquids, peroxide‐forming chemicals, oxidizers, water‐reactive chemicals, pyrophoric substances, light‐sensitive chemicals, toxic chemicals, and dry media. A list of incompatible chemicals is included.

摘要:
This article discusses how the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous substances identification program can by implemented by a water utility. Through the program, each potentially dangerous chemical is identified by a four‐digit number. This number is listed in an emergency response guidebook, which includes a brief description of emergency measures to be taken in case of an emergency leak or spill. A table listing DOT identification for common water treatment hazardous materials is included.
