摘要:
Three main reasons for paint failure on storage tanks are lack of surface preparation, improper choice of materials and improper application. Ways to prepare the surface of the tank include the grinding of all welds, in order to make the area smooth, installation of adequate shell manholes, elimination of spider rods inside the tank and use of noncorrosive materials for bolts. The choice of material and application are very important and several problems can arise, such as the improper use of solvents or thinners, inadequate periods of drying time, excessive amounts of time between the prime and finish coats, and incompatibility of coatings.

摘要:
The Boulder, Colorado Water Utility experienced the problem of having 4000 gallons of alum accidentally going through the filters into the distribution system resulting in bad‐tasting, sticky water. Hydrant flushing remedied the problem. The cause of the problem and how to prevent it from occurring again are also briefly discussed.
