摘要:
Described is an incident of DDT contamination in the Kulm, North Dakota city water supply. After DDT was accidentally backsiphoned into the water system, the cross‐connection and backflow prevention programs were reviewed. It was found that city residents were filling sprayers containing DDT with their garden hoses by putting the ends of the hoses in the herbicide water. Because the hoses had no backflow preventers, negative pressure in the water supply could draw the DDT into the water system.

摘要:
A decaying brick storm sewer located 30 feet below the surface of a heavily traveled street caused a street cave‐in in Evansville, Indiana. The incident, in which a 36‐in. line of prestressed concrete pressure pipe withstood a 60‐ft. collapse, is described here.
