摘要:
In 1966, the City of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, whose water treatment plant has an average capacity of 6 mgd, used approximately 10 mil lb (4.5 mil kg) of salt, costing $45,000, to regenerate synthetic zeolite for water softening. This article describes the drilling and development of a brine well to be used as a source of the needed salt solution. Technical aspects and development costs of the brine treatment unit are detailed. At current production and use rates, the salt well represents an annual savings of $234,000 per year.

摘要:
The instruments used in every water treatment plant fall into two broad categories: laboratory instruments and process monitoring and/or control instruments. Basic laboratory instruments that nearly every water treatment plant should consider are discussed, including: turbidimeters; pH meters; jar test apparatus; colorimeters; online process‐control instruments; microscopes; and balances. The selection process should consider location, intended use, availability of prepackaged reagents, required degree of precision and accuracy, accessories, and an economical method of analysis in compliance with regulatory agencies.

摘要:
This paper describes the use of gasoline‐powered DC arc welders, rated at at least 450 A continuous duty, for thawing of frozen pipes in Madison, Wisconsin during the winter of 1976‐1977. Equipment, procedures, and time factors are discussed, and the need for proper training and safety practices is emphasized.

摘要:
On January 7, 1979, one of the legs on an elevated water storage tank containing 150,000 gallons (568,000 L) of water split due to ice buildup in the bottom section. This paper describes the action taken by utility officials in Wellington, Ohio to repair the split and prevent a similar occurrence at the town's other storage tank.
