摘要:
Results of radiotherapy of 88 cats with squamous cell carcinomas of the nose were recorded. Two treatment regimens were used: 2000 rad per treatment at monthly intervals and 1000 rad at two‐day intervals, with a total dose of 3000 rad. Results indicated that three treatments of 1000 rad each was superior to monthly treatments of 2000 rad. Small lesions had the highest cure rate. Response of large lesions to radiotherapy was poo

摘要:
Squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal plane in eight dogs was treated with radiotherapy. Radiotherapy failed to control the tumor in each dog. Mean time until treatment failure was apparent was 2.9 months. Squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal plane in dogs appears to respond more poorly to radiotherapy than does squamous cell carcinoma of the gingiva.

摘要:
Physical aspects of external beam abdominal radiotherapy are discussed. Acute, intermediate, and late radiation effects on tissue are reviewed as a basis for determining abdominal organ tolerance to therapeutic radiation. Specific tolerances of critical organs that may be affected by abdominal radiotherapy are itemized, and the manifestations of intolerance are described. Potential application of abdominal radiotherapy to veterinary medicine is proposed. Data available on management of adverse reactions to abdominal radiotherapy are summarized.

摘要:
Hyperthermia is a field of cancer research of increasing importance to veterinarians and physicians. The thermobiologic studies that are guiding the development of clinical research are reviewed. The interaction of heat, radiation, and drugs on tumors and normal tissues is presented, and the basis for producing a therapeutic gain is discussed. Current methods of inducing local, regional, and systemic hyperthermia in animals and humans are summarized. The areas of clinical research in which veterinary radiologists and oncologists could contribute by studying the effects of heat and radiotherapy on domestic animals with spontaneous tumors are emphasized.

摘要:
Cats with lymphosarcoma are affected with rapidly progressive, fatal neoplasia of hemopoietic tissues. The very aggressive nature of this type of neoplasia requires intense therapy, which in most instances is only palliative. A combination of total body irradiation and cytotoxic chemotherapy in four normal cats was followed by similar patterns of leukopenia and throm‐bocytopenia in all cats. The radiation protocol and the complications of the transient throm‐bocytopenia and leukopenia are discussed and compared with reports of similar efforts in human medicine. The responses from these normal cats were quite similar to those seen in humans undergoing similar therapy. The cat may be considered as a possible model for further radiotherapy resea

摘要:
Eighteen dogs with transmissible venereal tumors were treated with orthovoltage radiotherapy. Total radiation doses ranged from 10 to 30 Gy, given during periods of one to 34 days. Tumor cure, defined as lack of recurrence within one year after completion of radiotherapy, was observed in all 18 dogs. In seven of eight dogs, tumors were cured with a single dose of 10 Gy. The tumor that recurred after the single 10 Gy dose had been treated with chemotherapy prior to radiotherapy and was subsequently cured with additional radiotherapy. Data presented indicate that transmissible venereal tumors are radiocurable and that a single dose of 10 Gy is sufficient for cure in most dogs.

摘要:
The purpose of this review is to familiarize veterinarians with basic information regarding various combinations of drugs that have been used to attempt to improve the effectiveness of radiotherapy. Most of the drugs utilized function as either adjuvants, radioprotectors, radiosensitizers, or immunostimulants. Examples of these agents and their limitations in clinical veterinary radiotherapy are discussed.

摘要:
It is important that veterinarians who perform radiation therapy possess a minimum basic knowledge of interstitial implant radiotherapy and of radionuclides used as interstitial implants. The advantages and disadvantages of interstitial implants as compared with tele‐therapy, surgery, and chemotherapy, are presented. Two radionuclides, radon‐222 and iodine‐125, are discussed, and their physical parameters, cost, safety, and radiotherapeutic efficacy in human patients are compared. Three methods of dosimetry are briefly discussed: the Patterson‐Parker system, the Quimby system, and the dimension averaging technique. Some types of implant needles and associated implant equipment are described. It is concluded that permanent interstitial implants deserve consideration as a modality for treatment of appropriate spontaneous animal ne
