摘要:
Brain hemisphere dominance is reported to effect learning style in that people who are classified as left brain-dominant are believed to be primarily auditory learners and those classified as right brain-dominant are believed to be primarily visual learners. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of brain hemisphere dominance on learning by computer assisted instruction (CAI) and the traditional lecture method. The Wagner Preference Inventory was used to determine brain hemisphere dominance. Content related to the use of Roman numerals was presented using both CAI and the lecture method. A two-way analysis of variance demonstrated an interaction effect between brain hemisphere dominance and teaching method. Subjects classified as right hemisphere-dominant scored higher on the posttest in the CAI group, and left hemisphere-dominant subjects scored higher in the lecture group.

摘要:
This article reports on the development of a computer program for the recording of patient assessments performed by graduate nursing students. This program is part of a larger effort called Computer-Aided Research in Nursing (CARIN) that will also be used for data collection and retrieval. This article describes two phases of the current project. Other nursing diagnosis programs in existence are briefly reviewed, and formulation of the two initial steps of the nursing process, assessment and nursing diagnosis, are described.

摘要:
This article describes how The University of Iowa College of Nursing Instructional Design Services uses MS-DOS computer technology to create presentation graphics to support nursing education, research, scholarly productivity, and service. Hardware and software are described and examples are presented to illustrate the use of software to create alphanumeric, schematic, and freeform pictures. The authors stress that the use of computer-aided design and production does not eliminate the use of traditional principles of visual design, but rather necessitates their application.

摘要:
This study was undertaken to compare the attitudes of nurses and nursing students toward computer use in nursing practice and to clarify factors that influence these attitudes. Three factors within the student sample were examined: changes over time, prior experience with computers, and attitudes toward technology in general. Second, the attitudes of the nursing students were compared with those of a sample of practicing nurses. Finally, the multidimensional structure of Stronge's attitude scale was analyzed. A total of 353 sophomore nursing students and 358 staff nurses participated in the study. The analysis produced a refined 17-item attitude scale composed of three identifiable subscales: computers and patient care, computers and personal security, and general attitude. It was found that students had less experience with computers than the investigators had anticipated, and there was little change over three successive cohorts of students. However, in general, students' attitudes toward computer use in nursing were positive, and the more computer experience students had, the more positive their attitudes. The attitudes of the practicing nurses also were generally positive, but differences between students and nurses were observed.
