摘要:

For a hospital information system to be effective, a skilled and well-trained user group must be established. All the aspects of implementing a computer system for nursing at a regional medical center are discussed. The transition to computerization at this center was achieved by using a three-tiered implementation approach of demonstrating, familiarizing, and acquiring skills.

One of the fastest growing areas of personal computing is computer communications. This article gives a brief overview of the hardware and software needed to connect two computers in a communications link. Many of the terms used in computer communications are explained, and some communications applications currently used are discussed briefly.

In June 1983, the Third National Conference on Computer Technology and Nursing was convened in Bethesda, Maryland. Papers were delivered on the use of computers in nursing administration, practice, and education. Reactions to papers were presented by experts in the various content areas.

This article describes a program designed to assist nurses who care for clients receiving parenteral nutrition in calculating routine patient assessment parameters using a hand-held computer. The parameters computed are fluid balance, caloric intake, percentage of calories provided by each energy source, nitrogen balance, nitrogen: calorie ratio, and catabolic index. A review of the pertinent literature, description of the program logic, listing of the program, sample run, and list of variables are included.
