This article discusses the process of developing a semantic differential tool to measure attitude toward computer assisted instruction. The final version of the Attitude Toward CAI tool is composed of 14 bipolar adjective scales. Evidence of the content validity is presented, as well as results of a factor analysis and data supporting the reliability of the total tool and the three subscales.

This study compared role-playing and computer simulation for teaching interviewing techniques to students in a baccalaureate program in nursing. Forty-five student volunteers were randomly assigned to experimental or control groups. Hypotheses tested differences between the two groups in ability to collect a complete database and use interviewing techniques. Differences between groups were not statistically significant at the 0.05 level. However, on individual items, students in the experimental group defined their role more effectively and completed their interviews in less time. These findings were significant at the 0.05 level. Students in the experimental group found computer simulation of a client a helpful and enjoyable method for practicing interviewing skills.

摘要:
To facilitate nursing students' mastery of medication dosage calculations, a research study was conducted for three semesters at the University of Texas at El Paso, College of Nursing and Allied Health. This study compared the relationship between baccalaureate nursing students' use of selected supplemental learning activities (individual faculty conferences, simulation laboratory, peer tutors, and computer drilland- practice problems) with their success on medication dosage competency tests. The computer drill-and-practice problems, in contrast to any of the other available learning activities, were significantly related to baccalaureate nursing students' success on medication calculation competency tests. These computer assisted instruction modules were effective as well as cost- and time-efficient for students and faculty.

摘要:
This article discusses a 1984 national survey that assessed how deans and chairpersons of schools of nursing planned to confront the potential impact of computer technology on the nursing education environment. The impact was explored in three areas: 1) strategic planning for and management of computerized information technology; 2) consideration of computer ergonomics; and 3) identification of factors that enhanced or constrained use. In June 1984, a questionnaire was mailed to 416 deans and chairpersons of nursing who belonged to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Of this group, 245 nursing education administrators responded. The findings revealed a general lack of planning for adoption and use of computers in the nursing education environment. Word processing and administrative functions were the primary uses, with limited research and instructional applications. The main barrier to computer use was financial. Few deans used the technology's capabilities for decision support and strategic planning. Further study is needed in the area of policy-making relative to information technology and evaluation of the ergonomic and human factors associated with a computerized nursing education environment.
