This study examines the results of a pilot study undertaken to examine the efficacy of the American Heart Association interactive videodisc learning system for cardiopulmonary resuscitation instruction in the lay community. An experimental group was taught CPR through the interactive videodisc system, and a control group was taught CPR through the traditional instruction method. There were no significant differences between the groups; however, some trends were found that have implications for practice and further study

摘要:
Observational studies that address questions from a nursing perspective often focus on a process and require a description of events in context. As a consequence, the data stream that must be coded is likely to be complex, presenting a challenge to obtaining a complete and accurate coding. This paper identifies the features of data and its encoding that contribute to complexity, and uses a pilot observational study of mother-infant interaction to illustrate these features. Computerized methods to increase the accuracy and completeness of coding for a complex data set are presented and illustrated with study data, and internal and external reliability are assessed. This assessment should demonstrate an initial coding that has sufficient internal and external reliability to merit the further processing that is required for completeness and accuracy.

This study examined the effectiveness of a computer assisted tutorial program in teaching the concept of nursing diagnosis as defined by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA). Subjects included both undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Evidence is presented demonstrating that students did learn the material on the program.

The purpose of the present study was to validate the Computer Use Expectations Scale (CUES) and Hall's Stages of Concern as a means of assessing staff readiness to work with computers in the health care setting. Instruments used were Computer Use Expectations Scale and Computer Stress Scale. The sample consisted of 75 subjects (40 staff nurses, 18 administrator/charge nurses/unit leaders, 12 technicians, and 1 clerk [4 did not indicate their work role]). Results indicated that 86% of nurses and technicians rated themselves as very willing to use the computer as a reference. Using Hall's Stages of Concern Model for analysis led to results that were consistent with the setting's stage of development in computer use and work role group's previous experience with computers. This is tentative validation for the model. Suggestions are provided for points of focus for inservice education that incorporate differences in stages of concern.
