摘要:
Effect of halophenols on the extraction of Cu(II) with 8-quinolinol in carbon tetrachloride has been studied and compared with that on the extraction of Fe(III) previously studied. The phenols greatly enhance the extraction of both the metals with 8-quinolinol, but the effect is much smaller for Cu(II) than Fe(III). Such enhancement effect of the phenols improves the selectivity of the extraction: extraction separation of Fe(III) from Cu(II), which is quite impossible with 8-quinolinol alone, is enabled by the addition of the phenols. The extraction equilibrium has been analyzed in detail.

摘要:
A highly sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of nitrogen dioxide (nitrite as NOz−) by reacting manganese dioxide in 1:20 perchloric acid. An amount of manganese dioxide (MnOz) equivalent to the concentration of nitrogen dioxide becomes soluble due to the reduction of Mn (IV) to Mn (II) by nitrite in acidic medium. The soluble Mn (II) ion is filtered to remove excess of MnO2and is oxidized to permanganate ion by periodic acid in presence of phosphoric acid. The violet colored solution shows maximum absorbance at 525 nm. The sensitivity of the method is 0.08 ppm based on 0.0044 absorbance, and Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 0.2 to 10.0 μg/mL of NO2−. Molar absorbance is found to be 2442 at 525 nm.

摘要:
A sampling and analytical method has been developed for measurement of a starch-grafted, cross-linked sodium polyacrylate in air. Also, the method is applicable to measurement of several other polyacrylate super absorbent polymers and involves air sampling with a 37-mm PVC membrane filter, treatment of the sample with 0.07Mcupric acetate solution to form a copper-polymer precipitate, digestion of the precipitate with nitric and perchloric acids, and measurement of the copper content by inductively-coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrophotometry. The interior surface of the front piece of the filter cassette also is analyzed. This analytical method has been compared with a sodium method that currently is used. Detection limits for various super absorbent polymers ranged from 4.4 to 14 micrograms per sample.

Problems encountered in the determination of uranium in rubidium uranium sulphate (Rb2U(SO4)3) employing isotope dilution thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (ID-TIMS) are discussed. The positive bias of 0.2 to 0.3% in the determination of uranium in Rb2U(SO4)3by ID-TIMS with respect to the stoichiometric composition has been resolved by modifying the chemical exchange procedures. The concentration of uranium in Rb2U(SO4)3could be determined with an accuracy better than 0.1% employing the HClO4treatment for proper isotopic exchange between the spike and sample isotopes.

The reaction between titanium(IV) and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid in aqueous media results in an intensely colored complex which is stable for at least 8h. It allows the spectrophotometric determination of titanium in silicate rocks. The proposed method, in pH 4.0–6.0, shows a molar absorptivity of 1.43.104L.mole−1.cm−1at 380 nm. Beer's Law is obeyed up to 3.0 μg/mL of titanium(IV). The interference of iron(III) can be eliminated by reduction to iron(II) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride. The method was applied to the determination of titanium in various standard rocks and the results indicated that the accuracy and precision are satisfatory.

摘要:
A method for preconcentration and determination of traces of Au and Pd from manganese, nickel and their compounds is described. The trace elements are preconcentrated at a small column filled with Amberlite XAD-7 resin. After their eluation the elements are determined by flame AAS. The relative standard deviations (N=10) were found to be lower than 5%; the detection limit (3s, N=20) for Au and Pd in metal samples is 0.07 μg/g.
