Indium (III) was selectively extracted at pH 5.2–5.9 with N-p-methoxyphenyl-2-furylacrylohydroxamic acid (MFHA) into chloroform. BPAR [5-bromo-4(2-pyridylazo) resorcinal] was added to the extract to form an intensely red coloured ternary complex measurable spectrophotometrically at 515 nm (ϵ = 5.81 × 1041 mol−1cm−1). The extraction system enabled enrichment of indium and determination of the metal down to 10−4ppm (0.1 ppb) levels. For atomic absorption spectrometric determination, indium was extracted with MFHA into methyl isobuyl ketone and measured at 303.9 nm resonance line in the air-acetylene flame. Both the methods were

摘要:
Thorium (IV) was separated from several anions and cations commonly associated with it in environmental samples by liquid-liquid extraction with N-p-methoxyphenyl-2-furylacrylohydroxamic acid (MFHA) into chloroform at pH 3.6–5.5. The metal was then back-extracted into aqueous media containing 1.8–2.2 M HCl and determined spectrophotometricall) at 500 nm (ϵ = 3.9 × 1041 mol−1cm−1) with 4-(2-pyridylazo) resorcinol [PAR]. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of thorium in coal fly ash, monazite, uranium-thorium ore, animal tissue, plant tissue, and natural waters. MFHA and PAR were chosen from thirteen hydroxamic acids and nine pyridylazo reagents, as the reagent combination that provided the maximum selectivity and sensitivity.

摘要:
A new chelating resin has been synthesized by introducing a quinaldinic acid amide group into styrenedivinyl benzene (8%) copolymer beads. The resin is stable in fairly strong acids or alkali and has been characterized by elemental analysis for nitrogen and from i.r. spectra. The water regain value is 0.37g/g. The sorption patterns of Na(I), K(I), Ca(II), Mg(II), Pb(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and Fe(III) on the chelating resin have been studied as a function of pH. The resin selectively sorbs Hg(II) ever a wide pH-range of 2.5–7.6 with high efficiency. The maximum exchange capacity for Hg(II) is 1.98 mmols g−1at pH 5.5. Over 99% of Hg(II) sorbed has been recovered by using 10% thiourea in 1MHClO4both by batch and column operations. The has been utilized in the preconcentration and recovery of Hg(II) from industrial and laboratory waste water.

Chlorinated and brominated cyclohexene derivatives were found in the neutral (N) and acidic (A) fractions of chlorinated water extracted with cyclohexene-preserved dichloromethane. The brominated cyclohexene derivatives were formed only when the water sample contained bromide ions and chlorine.

摘要:
The assignment of metal complexes to various regimes on the basis of their dissociation kinetics is one type of metal speciation study. The most common scheme, which involves column ion-exchange as a means of separating free metal ions and metals in the form of highly labile complexes from other forms of metals in the sample, is demonstrated to categorize incorrectly stable, charged complexes such as iron(II) and nickel(II) o-phenanthroline as labile. Donnan dialysis is an alternative ion-exchange method for metal speciation studies. Data are provided which demonstrate that the above complexes are correctly assigned by the Donnan dialysis method. The relative labilities of ethylenediamine and triethylenetetramine complexes of iron (II) and nickel (II) are also correctly determined by Donnan dialysis.
