摘要:
A method for the determination of gold in biological materials such as serum, urine, synovial fluid and tissues was investigated. After the dry ashing of the samples, gold was extracted from 6 M HCL into MIBK. The amount of gold was determined directly in the organic phase by the atomic absorption spectrometry. The range of the working curve was from 0.1 to 5.0 μg and the accuracy and recovery of the present method were satisfactory for practical purposes.

Thermal neutron activation analysis was applied to the nondestructive determination of parts per billion (p.p.b.) quantities of mercury in high purity, oxygen-free high conductivity (OFHC) copper. The data were treated to a five-point gamma spectrum smoothing to reduce the statistical variations due to the low count rates. Linear regression and a statistical evaluation of the data were also performed. Net photopeak counting rates of approximately 43 counts per minute (c.p.m.), compared to a background of approximately 6 c.p.m., were obtained for six two-gram copper samples containing 38 ± 12 p.p.b. mercury.

摘要:
A derivative pulse polarographic method is described for determining traces of copper, lead and cadmium in cobalt and its compounds without separation. In hydrochloric acid medium the detection limits are respectively about 0.02, 0.04 and 0.1 ppm in metallic cobalt when analysing 2 M cobalt solutions. The procedure was applied to the analyses of synthetic and commercially available cobalt samples and showed a satisfactory sensitivity and precision at various concentrations levels of the three impurities.

摘要:
The influence of column tubular material on column efficiency in high speed liquid chromatography has been examined. For good reproducibility in HETP, the columns were first packed dry with Corasil I (28–37μ) and then heptane saturated with 3,3′-oxydipropionitrile was flown through the column. When steady state conditions were achieved, the % loading of stationary phase was 1.1%. It was found that column materials of precision bore and seamless stainless steel, aluminum, and copper gave equivalent efficiency results for retained and unretained components. Teflon coated aluminum columns were not reproducible, in regard to HETP.

A selectivity coefficient for the foam separation of Fe(CN)64-, Ag(S203)23-, Cr2072-, Cr042-, S2032-, HP042-, and I−from solutions containing ethylhexadecyldimethylammonium bromide is related to the absolute partial molal entropy of each ion. The entropy, which correlates well with the degree of hydration, enables an estimate of the selectivity of an ion flotation or foam fractionation by a surfactant.

摘要:
Element-selective detectors for carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, and nitrogen are used to determine methane, hydrogen sulfide, phosphine and ammonia in the effluent from a pyrolytic hydrogenator. Solid ecological field samples, e.g., forest floor litter, plant stream particulate, and insects, require no chemical pretreatment. These are pyrolyzed and the pyrolyzates pass through a catalyst bed which reduces the elements to the corresponding hydrides. Data are given for sulfur, carbon, and nitrogen.

摘要:
A plotting package, written in LINC assembly language, is described. It produces high quality graphs and labels the graphs for direct submission to professional journals. A μ-LINC (LaboratoryINstrument (Computer) is used to compute least-squares fitted curves and lines from data entered either on-or off-line and to draw the graphs directly on an incremental plotter. Bar graphs, line graphs, and fitted data can be plotted with options to suppress the lines and/or the points.

The kinetics of the acid-catalyzed reactions of di-n-butyl -sulfoxide (BuSOBu), di-phenylsulfoxide (PhSOPh), and di-benzyl -sulfoxide (PhCH2SOCH2Ph) with iodide in a medium of HCLO4has been followed; the reaction orders with respect to sulfoxide and iodide have been determined and a possible mechanism discussed.
