摘要:
A novel procedure for the analysis of non-ionic surfactants is reported. The method relies on extraction of a cobaltithiocyanate adduct from an aqueous sample into a benzene phase. The amount of cobalt extracted was determined by atomic absorption and correlated linearly with the corresponding surfactant concentration in the aqueous specimen. Relevant pollution levels in the Atlantic Ocean were estimated rapidly with a precision and accuracy of 10% or better.

摘要:
Thermodynamic parameters have been determined by poten-tiometric techniques for complex ions formed by N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine TKED, with nickel (II), copper(II), and zinc(II) ions. The formation constants, enthalpy, and free energy data for the complexes exhibited values qualitatively consistent with predicted ligand field stabilization trends for these cations. The general expected stability of the complexes in the order Ni(II) < Cu(II) > Zn(II) is observed.

摘要:
Methods are described for the detection of amines as vapors and in solution. The lower limit of detection of diethylamine or triethylamine vapors by drawing the vapor through a detector tube containing silica gel impregnated with dichloroacetaldehyde and then heating is 25 μg. As low as 1 μg of the same amines can be detected In aqueous solution by the degradation of a chloral-dichloroacetaldehyde copolymer. Detection signal in the latter case is the appearance of fluorescence when liberated monomer dissolves a 2-diphenylacetyl-1,3-indandione derivative.

摘要:
The optimum pH for the formation of a chelate between Au(III) and 5-(p-ethoxyanilino)-5,6-dihydrouracil was found to be 6.2. The wavelength of maximum absorption was 520 nm. The pKa for the ligand was 4.32 and the molar absorptivity was 1,300. Interference studies were made. The chelate, in a solution of pH 6.0 to 6.5, can be quantitatively extracted by a 1:1 mixture (v/v) of CHCl3 and toluene.

摘要:
Using an electron activity concept, equations are deduced which describe oxidation-reduction titrations in a manner similar to how pH describes acid-base titrations. Additional equations are presented for calculating percent error and also optimum conditions of oxidation-reduction titrations using conditional equilibrium constants. Results are shown for the titrations of iron(II) with dichromate and thallium(III) with ascorbic acid.

A spectrofluorometric study of some of the hallucinogenic drugs has been made. The wavelengths of maximum excitation and maximum fluorescence emission are presented for several hallucinogens in various solvents and at various pH values. Practical detection limits, the optimum solvent systems, and some of the problems involved in the use of spectrofluorometry in the identification and determination of certain hallucinogens are given.
