摘要:
A method is described for quantitative determination of specific organic substances in the air in the presence of other, highly-concentrated air impurities. The required selectivity is achieved by the application of a coupled gas chro-matograph-mass spectrometer system. By concentration of the organic material from a one liter sample volume of air, reproducible detection limits of 1 ppb (10−9) have been obtained. Application of the method for the specific detection of bis(chloro-methyl) ether and dimethylsulfate is discussed. The proposed threshold limit values of these substances are 1 and 10 ppb, respectively. Bis(chloromethyl) ether is formed as a byproduct in chloromethylation reactions; dimethylsulfate has been manufactured for many years in large quantities and is used in methylation reactions. A reliable air monitoring system in both these important industrial processes is of great importance.

摘要:
The low molecular weight organics were collected from water samples before, during, and after processing at a typical municipal water treatment plant and analyzed by high resolution gas chromatography. The volatile organics were trapped on a solid polyphenyl ether adsorbent. The procedure described was found to offer certain advantages over the conventional analytical techniques in evaluating the nature and origin of low molecular weight organics introduced during the municipal water treatment process.

摘要:
Thermometrlc detection methods have been applied to the enzymatic reduction of pyruvate to lactate. “Kinetic curves” obtained have been used to generate data for Lineweaver-Burk plots in order to evaluate the Michaelis constant of pyruvate. Results show that reasonably good values are obtained and that the well known substrate inhibition feature of this process is also observed.

Tian-Calvet conduction microcalorimetry has been applied to aldolase quantitation via measurement of fructose phosphate degradation. The endothermic reaction response measured from net chart deflection was directly proportional to enzyme levels at a constant-excess concentration of fructose phosphate. There was no significant interference in determinations of aldolase as added to human serum. Enthalpic measures for the fructose monophosphate reaction were significantly less than those for fructose diphosphate and aldolase. The simplicity of analysis, capability for monitoring aldolase substrate affinity and measurement in biological fluids suggest considerable potential including clinical isoenzyme determination.

Chelating functional groups have been immobilized on chromatographic grade silica gel using silylation reactions. The recovery of trace metals from solution by these materials is illustrated. The pH and time dependence upon batch extractions was studied. These materials offer potential for variation of functional groups for specific tasks.

摘要:
A new method for the determination of the titre of ascorbic acid standard solutions employing potassium dichromate as a primary standard has been developed. In a pyrophosphate medium, the pyrophosphate complex of divalent manganese is oxidized by dichromate to the pyrophosphate complex of tervalent manganese; the latter oxidizes o-tolidine reversibly with formation of the corresponding quinonediimine, which is visually titrated by the ascorbic acid standard solution.

A procedure has been developed for the quantitative analysis of potassium for its tritium content. This procedure consists of dissolving the highly reactive alkali metal in an inert liquid containing a small amount of ethanol and then analyzing the resulting solution for its tritium content by classical methods. Techniques previously used for sodium analysis are reviewed and discussed as they apply to the more reactive potassium.
