摘要:
The respiration electrode - a new type of microbial sensor comprising small amounts of viable microorganisms on an oxygen electrode - was used for characterization of the physiological state of cells by measuring the change of respiration after substrate addition, (for example glucose by Bacillus subtilis as well as glucose and methanol by Candida boidinii). This respiration parameter - designated as acceleration of respiration - alters characteristically during a growth cycle, and is useful in following the physiological state of microorganisms.

摘要:
The amperometric carbon dioxide sensor we developed uses chemoautotrophic thermophilic bacteria and an oxygen-sensing electrode. The sensor was fabricated by packing the sensitive area of the bicarbonate sensor in a cell with a gas-permeable membrane on one side. The membrane was constantly supplied with an oxygen-saturated buffer solution. The sensor's operating range was 34°C to 58°C. A linear relationship was obtained in a 1-mM to 8-mM NaHCO3concentration in a buffer solution (pH 5.5) and a 3% to 12% CO2concentration in air. The effect of the sensor's low sensitivity to sodium acetate and ethanol was greatly improved by supplying fresh, oxygen-saturated buffer solution. The sensor had a life of more than a month.

摘要:
A rapid, sensitive and selective method is described for the determination of some penicillin derivatives and their additive and degradation products in the presence of each other. Penicillin derivatives are separated from their degradation and additive products on high performance thin layer silica gel G plates. The plates were developed in a linear chamber, air dried, exposed to iodine vapour and measured on a spectrodensitometer at 290 nm. Procaine and procaine penicillin are measured at 360 nm. The results of the analysis show good agreement with the method of the USP XXI. For the reaction of penicillins with iodine, the formation of charge-transfer complexes is considered.

摘要:
A simple colorimetric assay method has been developed to quantify isoetharine hydrochloride in inhalation solutions. The method is based on a very simple reaction with potassium ferricyanide in a 0.05 M phosphate buffer solution. The color so developed can be measured at 500 nm. Beer's law was followed. The results were precise and accurate, with percent relative standard deviation of 0.6 based on 5 readings. The results using the developed method were in excellent agreement with the results obtained using the USP-NF method which is based on HPLC. Iodine solution was used to prevent the interference from the antioxidant (acetone sodium bisulfite). There was no interference from the other excipients present and from the two structurally related compounds, metaproterenol and terbutaline

摘要:
A rapid HPLC method has been presented for the determination of some 2-imidazolines in several liquid or semi-solid commercial preparations. Two of the active ingredients were determined simultaneously whereas others were determined in the presence of dexamethasone and excipients. From the sample solutions no interference was observed on the chromatograms. Linearity and precision of the method have been assessed. The assay results obtained for various formulations were in accord with the declared amount.

A preliminary study on the binding and removal of trace concentrations of aluminum ions in waters by two species of algae,Chlorella PyrenoidosaandChlorella Vulgaaris, were investigated. Binding by the former was minimal over all pH ranges, but binding by the latter was effective with a maximum binding of 68% occurring at pH 5. Binding was lowered drastically below pH 2, and this may be used to remove aluminum from the algae. Optimum binding occurred after 20 minutes exposure time of algae to aluminum solution and 450 mg algae mass to 100 mL solution. Binding was reproducible and more efficient in waters with low suspended solids. High salt concentrations interfere with binding, and theChlorella Vulgariscould be reused 7 times with washings between each binding before a noticeable decrease in binding efficiency was found.

摘要:
A simple and rapid gas chromatographic procedure is described for the identification and quantification of pollutants in the nitrobenzene manufacturing plant wastewater. The samples were extracted with methylene chloride and subsequently nitrobenzene and 2,4-dinitrophenol were analysed by GC using FID. The method was found to be precise and accurate and applicable for monitoring the effluent treatment system at ppm levels.

Differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry using dimethylglyoxime complexes in the presence of triethanolamine and ammonium chloride can be applied to the determination of cobalt (II) ions in natural waters with high sensitivity. The limit of detection is about 3 ppt. Actual analysis of estuary water are reported. In this particular case of natural water, the factors influencing the use of differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry for the determination of cobalt are described in detail.

An analytical method for indirect trace determination of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in water, by potentiometric stripping analysis is described. Excess Bi(III) was added to form a 1:1 complex with EDTA at pH 2.3. The uncomplexed Bi(III) was then deposited on a glassy carbon electrode at a potential of −0.40 V vs. SCE and subsequently stripped potentiometrically using potassium dichromate as oxidant. The stripping time of uncomplexed Bi(III) was recorded. The Concentration of EDTA in the sample was determined from the concentration of added Bi(III) and the potentiometrically stripped Bi(III) at −0.4 V by the standard addition method. The relative standard deviation for EDTA concentration of 95 ppb and 4.5 ppb was 1.9% and 2.6%, respectively. The detection limit was about 1 ppb EDTA for a deposition time of 3 minutes.
