摘要:
The graphite nature used for confectioning the graphite furnaces influences considerably the peak shapes. With the use of normal graphite the evolution of the peak is much slower and the shape is also altered. As a consequence the instrument has a better chance to “catch” and measure the peak height and area, this resulting in an overall better precision and accuracy.

摘要:
The effect of tetradecyl-dimethyl-benzyl-ammonium chloride (zephiramine=Z+Cl-) on uranium with 4-(2-thiazolylazo) resorcinol (TAR) was studied. In the presence of zephiramine, a uranium-TAR complex was stabilized and solublized in aqueous media at a pH around 7. The addition of zephiramine made it possible to use phosphate buffers which have large buffer capacity in the optimum range for the determination of uranium. Almost all interfering ions can be masked with an EDTA solution. As a result, a sensitive and simple method for the determination of uranium was developed.

7-Nitroso-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid (H2NQS) was used as a chelating reagent for ion-pair extraction of cobalt (II) and iron (II) with tetradecyl-dimethyl-benzyl-ammonium chloride (zephiramine = Z+Cl-). The ternary complexes, being charge transfer complexes, had the absorption maxima at 530pm for cobalt and at 695pm for iron. The optinum pH ranges for the extraction were 3.5-8.0 and 4.5-8.5 for cobalt and iron respectively. The compositions of the ternary complexes were Co(NQS)3Z3and Fe(NQS)3Z4. In the presence of adequate amounts of sodium chloride, the excess of reagent in the organic phase can be removed into the aqueous phase. The exchange equilibrium constants for the metal complex anion and the chloride ion were calculated to be K3Cl−Fe(NQS)33=9.38 and K4Cl−Fe(NQS)34= 8.39.

摘要:
Reference electrodes utilizing cation exchanging qualities of perfluorosulfonic polymer membranes (Nafion) have been developed. They are constructed of a plastic body with Nafion plug connecting inner and outer compartments. The variability of the composition of filling solutions makes these electrodes suitable for applications where conventional reference electrodes cause interferring effects. Data on stability, reproducibility, effect of temperature, pH and total ionic strength of several cationic forms of the electrodes are presented.

Aldehyde emissions from two types of sources were measured by three measurement method approaches. The two sources were a municipal incinerator and a phenolic resin manufacturing process. The three measurement methods were: collection of the aldehydes in a basic peroxide solution with subsequent detection by Ion Chromatography, collection of the aldehydes in a bisulfite solution with subsequent determination of total carbonyl with a titrimetric procedure, and collection of the aldehydes in a dinitrophenylhydrazine solution followed by detection of the respective derivatives by high performance liquid chromatography. The results indicate several limitations to the peroxide approach and potential collection efficiency problems with the derivative method. The need to develop further measurement methodology for such sampling and detection exists.

A comparison study was undertaken to evaluate different analytical methods for measuring boron concentrations in the geothermal fluid from the Los Alamos Hot Dry Rock Geothermal Energy Project and from natural waters collected in the vicinity of the project. Three colorimetric techniques, the carmine method and two azomethine H methods, were compared with two plasma emission spectroscopy methods and with thermal neutron capture-gamma spectroscopy. In general, the analytical results from all the methods were comparable and acceptable; however, each method had its own distinct advantages and disadvantages.

摘要:
The effects of substituents on the reactivity of the monosubstituted anilines with fluorescamine (FLA) and the fluorescent properties of the reaction products, FI (Ph), were investigated. Generally, the substituent at o-position markedly inhibited the reactivity of the amino group (ortho-effect). While the electron-donating substituent seemed to be favorable for the formation of FI (Ph), the electron-attracting one seemed to lower reactivity of the amino group. However, the presence of the latter substituent led to the enhanced fluorescence of FI (Ph). The highly significant correlation was observed between the wavelengths (nm) of the emission maxima and the Hammett's substituent constants.
