摘要:
The polyethylene capillary used for dropping mercury electrodes (D.M.E.) has permitted the study of interfacial tension by a drop time method in highly concentrated solutions. The electrocapillary curves were obtained for the aqueous solutions of KF, NaOH and KCL. The measurements evince that there is a difference between results obtained using glass and polyethylene capaillaries. The difference increases with the concentration of the electrolyte. We attribute that fact to wetting of the polyethylene capillary by mercury.

摘要:
The hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) and the long lasting sessile drop mercury electrode (LLSDME) currently used in trace metal analysis are critically compared. Alternating current anodic stripping voltammetry (AC-ASV) and alternating current linear sweep voltammetry (AC-LSV) respectively are employed for the determination of Zn,Cd, Pb, Cu and Fe.

摘要:
The nitrite ion oxidizes pyridoxal-5-phosphate-2-pyridyl-hydrazone in acid medium giving a fluorescent product (λex325 nm, λem420 nm). This redox reaction is used to developed a spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of nitrite. The calibration graph is liner in the 0.1 − 1.0 μg mL−1range. The interference levels, stoichiometry and nature of the reaction have been studied. The method is applied to determine nitrite in water and soil samples

摘要:
An inexpensive probe system for introduction of samples for analysis by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry is described. The system involves mounting a capillary tube on a tripod stand to allow the probe to be inserted into the atomizer for analysis. Comparison between this method of atomization and conventional atomization off the atomizer wall for the measurement of cadmium is described.

A Kalman filter is used to determine the number of components and their concentrations in mixtures of synthetic organic pigments. In this way, a quantitative identification of mixtures of these pigments is possible as is shown with a simulated as well a real mixture. The dataset used in the experiments, consisted of as much as 27 candidate pigments.

摘要:
High-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) separation of sugar anomers was carried out on -NH2columns in acidic eluents in a very low temperature region. Chromatogram patterns were found to show remarkable changes with decreasing column temperatures. This was attributed to the fact that interconversion between sugar anomers (mutarotation) occurred during the chromatographic process. Since mutarotation was suppressed in a very low temperature region, pyranose anomers of each mono- and di-saccharide were separated completely. Furanose anomers were also separated from an equilibrium mixture, and the necessary conditions for complete separation of furanose anomers were discussed.

The use of packed-bed solid sorbent tubes was investigated for the collection and concentration of lead and lead compound aerosols utilizing a lead metal laboratory test atmosphere and lead containing automobile exhaust. Four different sorbents were tested: alumina (100–150 mesh), silica gel (80–200 mesh), Chromosorb 102 (60–80 mesh), and Tenax-GC (80–100 mesh). The following average collection efficiencies were observed for the first portion of each sorbent in the tube (200 mg of sorbent) when sampling automobile exhaust: 95.8 ± 5.7 % for alumina, 98.5 ± 3.2 % for silica gel, 98.0 ± 3.7 % for Chromosorb 102, and 99.2 ± 2.6 % for Tenax-GC. Using the lead metal test aerosol, the average efficiencies were 99.2 ± 1.0, 99.2 ± 1.1, 99.9 ± 0.1, and 100.0 ± 0.0 % for the alumina, silica gel, Chromosorb 102, and Tenax-GC, respectively. Consideration of percent collection efficiency, blank values, and elution efficiency of lead from the sorbent indicated that Tenax-GC provided the best results.

摘要:
The suitability of various analytical and sampling methodologies for the determination of the environmental impact of a test scale MHD power generation facility is evaluated. Media which were sampled included airbourne particulates, soils, vegetation and natural waters. Analytical techniques examined include plasma emission and atomic absorption spectrometry and ion chromatography. Except in the case of the sampling of particulates with moss ball samplers, the analytical and sampling methodologies can be integrated in such a manner so as to maximize precision and thereby facilitate the statistical evaluation of impact effects.
