摘要:
Analytical chemistry in Israel is not in as good a shape as one may wish. Several attempts have been made to instill interest in this branch of the profession among faculty members, practicing chemists and students, but no great stride forward can be recorded, and on the contrary, some set-backs must be noted. Nevertheless, analytical chemistry is practiced vigorously in several laboratories, and original Israeli contributions in this field have been noted by the international community of analytical chemists. It is on this background that the present survey is being presented.

摘要:
O-p-Nitrobenzyl-N, N′-diisopropylisourea was shown to react under relatively mild conditions with carboxylic acids to yield thep-nitrobenzyl esters as chromogenic derivatives useful for liquid chromatographic analysis. Thep-nitrobenzyl ester of stearic acid was detectable down to the picomole range.

摘要:
A new liquid chromatography detector has been developed with sensitivity to most organic compounds in the 10 – 100 picogram region, but insensitive to common eluents. Photons from a vacuum UV lamp ionize solutes in the vaporized LC column effluent, without ionizing the mobile phase. Initial studies of its performance and applications indicate considerable promise as a sensitive, universal detector.

摘要:
The ultraviolet spectra of aqueous nitrite and nitrate solutions and of binary mixtures were obtained. By using an addition technique and a reference nitrate/nitrite solution it was possible to compensate for the interference caused by the overlapping of the nitrate and nitrite bands, which is normally a limiting factor in the analysis of mixtures of nitrite with large excesses of nitrate. The detection limit was 5 × 10−5M NO2−which corresponded to a minimum detectable amount of 2.3 ppm NO2−in the presence of up to 20,000 times greater amount of NO3−. The accuracy was ± 0.6% and the standard deviation ± 0. 002.

摘要:
An atomic absorption flow detector combined with a gel chromatographic column (Sephadex G-25) gives a sensitive and quantitative method of determining various condensed phosphates such as diphosphate, tri-phosphate, tetraphosphate and Kurrol's salt. This method is based on the automatic recording of atomic absorption at the resonance line of magnesium due to magnesium complexes of condensed phosphates which are produced during the elution of condensed phosphate anions through the column pre-equilibrated with a magnesium chloride solution.

摘要:
A rapid method of determining total sulphur in vegetation is described. The plant material is combusted in an oxygen-flask, and the sulphate content of an aliquot of the absorbing solution is determined turbidimetrically as barium sulphate. The method is convenient and accurate. Its results agree closely with those obtained by the AOAC magnesium nitrate procedure.

摘要:
The Video Fluorometer is a new instrument for fluorescence analysis which offers significant advantages for the study of complex systems. This instrument can acquire 241 fluorescence spectra, taken at 241 different exciting wavelengths in 16.7 milliseconds. These results are displayed in a three-dimensional graphical format in real time. Coupled with a laboratory computer, this instrument should provide new algorithms for the analysis of luminescence spectra of multi-component systems.

A new thermometric method for the analysis of non-competitive enzyme inhibitors has been developed. Advantages and basic requirements of the method are discussed. In the case studied, 30 nanograms of silver ions were detected.
