摘要:
The use of phenol and alkaline hypochlorite has been investigated for the spectrophotometric estimation of methylamine. The reagents react with methylamine forming an intensely blue colored dye, the maximum absorption for which is observed at 630 nm. The rate of the reaction is slow. Sodium nitroprusside is added to enhance the sensitivity and rate of the reaction. The rate is also enhanced by raising the temperature of the reaction. The formation of the indophenol dye is pH sensitive, maximum intensity being observed at pH 10.5. The reaction mixture buffered at pH 10.5, is thermostated at 37°C and its absorbance measured at 630 nm after 3 hours. The system obeys Beer's law up to 15 ppm with slight deviation in the lower ranges. Concentrations as low as 0.5 ppm of methylamine can be estimated in a 1 cm cell.

摘要:
It has been found that certain insecticides, rodenticides, herbicides and fungicides on solid state supports give fluorescence when sprayed with solutions containing 2-diphenylacetyl-1,3-indandione-1-imine derivatives. Compounds that give high fluorescence include DDT, Chlordane, Heptachlor, Toxaphene, Methoxychlor, Diazinon, Carbophenothion, DDVP, Warfarin, phenoxyacetic acid, methyl l-naphthaleneacetate, Chloranil, Dichlone, and 1,4,5,6,7,7-hexachloro-N-(ethylmercuri)-5-norbornene-2,3-dicarboximide. The effect is based on fluorescence enhancement of the 2-diphenylacetyl-1,3-indandione-l-imine derivatives as a result of molecular complexation with the compound detected.

摘要:
A rapid, simple and sensitive spectrofluorimetric determination of cadmium based on the formation of a fluorescent chelate with benzyl-2-pyridylketone 2-pyridylhydrazone is described. In darkness, the fluorescence development is instantaneous and remains stable for 1 h. The detection limit is 11 ppb. The influence of reaction variables and the effect of foreign ions are discussed.

摘要:
Isolation of organic constituents from water frequently involves an extraction with a large volume of organic solvent which must be reduced to achieve the desired sensitivity. The objective of this research was to evaluatecommonsolvent evaporation techniques to determine which are acceptable for use in pollutant analysis. Techniques for solvent reduction from 200 to 10 mL (macro) and 8 to 0.2 mL (micro) were evaluated. The macro concentration technques included Kuderna-Danish (K-D) concentration, rotary evaporation, evaporation on a hot plate in an Erlen-meyer flask, and heated nitrogen blowdown in an Erlenmeyer flask. The micro techniques included micro K-D concentration, nitrogen blowdown, and nitrogen blowdown with a modified Snyder column. A series of model compounds covering a wide range of boiling points (108° to 323°C) and polarity was used. Based upon recovery efficiency alone, nitrogen blowdown was significantly superior to the other macro techniques; however, its extreme slowness gave K-D the highest Figure of Merit. With methylene chloride as the solvent, nitrogen blowdown with a column was the superior technique.

A nitron-polyvinylbenzyl chloride polymer was found to have a strong preference for oxidizing anions such as NO3−, NO2−, ReO4−, MnO4−, C1O4−, C1O3−, and Cr2O7=but not for the non-oxidizing anions SO4=, HSO4−, H2PO4=, HPO4=, PO4=, OH−, CO3=, HCO3−, F−, C1−, and Br−.

摘要:
A solid state oxalate sensor is reported utilizing a commercial ion-selective electrode, the SelectrodeTM. Comparative measurements in aqueous solution of similar carboxylate ions and common inorganic anions, indicates appreciabl'e selectivity for oxalate. The SelectrodeTMwas activated with a mixture of silver sulphide, lead sulphide, and lead oxalate.
