We used bromine generated and detected on the ring-dise electrode for the titration of aquo-alcoholic solution of dithiaalcanediol. The analysis of the ring currentvsdisc current curve provided a means of determination of the rate constantkof the second order homogeneous and fast reaction of bromine with each of the two sulfide groups of dithiaalcanediol. A value of (3+1)× 10−6M−1s−1was found forkat 25°C.

A sensitive method for the determination of caffeine in small plasma samples (50 μ1) is described. The samples are extracted with chloroform and the extrects are freed from interfering compounds by thin-layer chronatography. The spots of caffeine and the internal standard, 7-ethyl theophylline, are scraped off the plates and both compounds are eluted from the scrapings by means of a glass capillary collector. A procedure for the determination of promethazine in plasma and urine has been developed which involves solvent extraction and gas chromatography using an alkaline flame ionisation detector. This procedure is sensitive and reproducible and can be applied to samples from humans receiving therapeutic doses of promethazine.

Folates in milk are heat labile and methods used to protect these folates during sample preparation for microbiological estimation of this vitamin result in opaque solutions unsuitable for turbidimetric assays. This has necessitated the use of titrimetric assay for milk folates which are long and cumbersome. By the use of rennin precipitation of casein under conditions which preserve the folate activity, an optically clear solution is obtained which can then be used for turbidimetric assay. This method is described in this paper.

Cholesterol oxidase has been immobililzed on collagen films associated to an electrochemical sensor to form a “cholesterol electrode”. The electrode poised at a potential of + 650 my vs Ag/AgCl detects the hydrogen peroxide produced in the enzymatic reaction. This device presents a very high sensitivity and a wide range of linearity (10−7M - 0.8.10−4M). The use of a non enzymatic electrode associated with the enzymatic one allowed the detection and correction of electrochemical interferences when applied to human sera for free cholesterol determination.

GC-MS methods have been developed which provide either analysis of eleven halocarbons in ambient air samples or only rapid analyses of CH3CI and CH2CI2, two species for which GC-ECD is particularly insensitive.
