摘要:
Iodometric titration with the dead stop endpoint was used to determine the amount of alkylhydroperoxides in an oxidation reaction mixture composed of the hydrocarbon starting material, an alcohol, a ketone and an alkylhydroperoxide. Because alkylhydroperoxides decompose on glpc analysis, glpc could not be used for total analysis of the reaction mixture nor for the determination of thein situalcohol content. However, the addition of triphenylphosphine to a separate portion of the sample quantitatively produced the corresponding alcohol from the hydroperoxide without interfering with the ketone concentration. The total alcohol content of this portion could then be determined by glpc, and the initial alcohol content found by subtracting the amount of hydroperoxide from the total alcohol.

摘要:
An account is given of the preparation, separation and detection of volatile fluorides. These fluorides are formed by the reaction of chlorine trifluoride with the elements in a specially designed PTFE reaction vessel enclosed in an HF coil. A comparison is also made of a spectroscopic detector with a katharometer for the detection of the fluorides.

The chromatography of a series of primary aromatic amines is studied on papers composed of pure cellulose and carboxy-methylcellulose with water, acetic acid and an acetate buffer as solvents. Migration data and possible separations are reported, and results are compared with those obtained on carboxymethylcellulose thin layers.

Although electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) has long proven itself a valuable technique for the study of various organic free radicals1including those that are biochemically interesting, only recently has it come into use as a convenient and sensitive method for inorganic analysis. Guilbault and coworkers have demonstrated the usefulness of EPR methods for the determination of low concentrations of various ions of the first transition metal series both in aqueous solution2, 3, 4and extracted into organic solvents.5Moyer and McCarthy6have also demonstrated the application of EPR to quantitative inorganic analysis. Inasmuch as the area under the EPR first derivative curve is related to the number of unpaired electrons, this can serve as a measure of the concentration of a relatively large number of inorganic free radicals including most paramagnetic metal ions. Some of the Group VIII metal ions such as Ni(II), Pd(II), and Pt(II), while paramagnetic in their high spin complexes, however, do not exhibit an EPR signal at room temperatures because of their very rapid relaxation times.

摘要:
By the use of a time averaging computer one is able to measure the lifetime of weak phosphorescence. The computer performs in two ways: once it increases the signal-to-noise-ratio by n-times addition of single scans and by m-times smoothing of the resulting function. The theoretical limit of increase is n1/2.

Detergents are decomposed by heating and dissolved in water. Aliquots are ion-exchanged, and the solutions are aspirated into an air-hydrogen flame in contact with a cooled metal surface. The emission intensity of an HPO band at 526.2 mμ is measured. Results are given for four common detergents.

摘要:
The metabolism of 5, 5-diphenylhydantoin was studied in the newborn human in two instances; one involved direct administration of the drug, and the other was by placental transfer of the drug from the mother. 5-(3,4-Dihydroxy-1, 5-cyclohexadien-1-yl)-5-phenylhydantoin was found to be a major metabolite. The GC and GC-MS methods employed here are well suited to the problem of studying drug metabolism in the newborn.

摘要:
A sensitive and rapid quantitative method employing atomic absorption spectrophotometry was developed for the determination of low concentrations of Rb+in urine, plasma and tissue. The method requires only a single set of Rb+standards, which are applicable for samples containing variable amounts of Na and K. The sensitivity of detection is 0.001 meq/L of Rb+.
